Thread: 6-Handle

I am a complete rookie to a lot of the terminology for the markets?
I have no idea of what 6-handle means?
I am a government worker, aka, I bust my ass to do the things that require me to get my job done and anything my supervisor asks me to take care of; make databases, write code, etc.
After that I go back to chill mode until the next brushfire rolls in.
Please clarify; for me and any other people who may have an interest?
    What is a 6-Handle,
What are the details of all spec.'s associated with this "6-" ?
How does that affect the markets?
Does this have any specific bearing on TSP Funds or accounts?

Yes that is true and over the last 4 days it has changed BIG TIME!! Beating the "C" fund is OK but it's still down 16.28% for the year. That's not pretty, but about +10% is the last few days helped a lot.

    Hi Danny -

A "6-handle" is just referring to the first digit of the S&P 500, in this case, when it dropped from 700 to 699. It went from a 7 handle to a 6 handle.

Traders will do the same for anything... If Apple is trading at $92 for example, a trader might say, "I'll be a buyer if we see an 8-handle on Apple." (meaning it moves down into the 80's).

    Hope that helps.

Sorry Guys I'm just dissapointed in my performance, just can't seem to figure out this CRAZY Market and it's getting to me. The Market just isn't reacting the way it normally does and it's frustrating. Guess we all have felt that feeling? It's OK I'm just NNUUTS!!
