  1. Default TSP Expense Ratio Increase

    Hello,
I have a question. Did the Expense Ratio for all TSP funds increase. Has anybody noticed?

They increased some 30% from 2021 to 2022. Not sure if they've gone up any since then.

Anything below .1% is not worth getting worked up over, but it blows my mind how TSP is increasing fees when everywhere else is lowering them. Other brokers, Fidelity and Schwab, rely heavily on their robo advisory services. Does TSP live up to their fees for the service it provides? I don't think so.

Thank you, I did not realize this until I recently took a closer look at the fees.

Fun fact: The expense ratio has climbed from 0.40% to over 0.67% since they limited daily trades.

The fees aren't terrible, but they are no longer the lowest out there.

I have a Schwab mutual fund that tracks the total market and it's fee is .03% compared to C Fund .059%. The Schwab bond fund is .04% compared to F fund .078%. The fees on ETF equivalents are even lower or non-existent in some cases.

Just wait until they add some ESG funds and those fees double.

I'll be rolling my TSP into a real brokerage when the time comes. Fees, distrust in the new TSP website, and the ability to withdraw funds from any fund I want to as opposed to all at once are three reasons.

It could be that they are not worried, since they have a captive audience for a good 20 - 30 years with new recruits every day. For that captive audience, there is little competition.
