Thread: The new TSP website is an unmitigated disaster!

I called to try to change my installment payments this morning. The menu directed me to the open account option because it said (incorrectly) that I hadn’t opened an account yet. After being on hold for an hour the representative transferred me to the withdrawal office. After another hour on hold my call was dropped.

So the phone line is just as poorly designed as the website, and I am unable to lower the amount of my installment payments. I have already received one installment payment I did not want, thus incurring tax liabilities for funds I do not need at the moment. I would also prefer to lower my withdrawals while stock values are low. I am unable to manage my money either online or on the phone, what incredible incompetence on the part of the TSP.

I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I was transferred to the withdrawal office and the call dropped after about 25 minutes on hold. That is on top of the 75 minutes I was on hold to speak with a representative who admitted she had not been trained on the new system and had no idea what to do.

So, we have gone from a relatively cumbersome website that at least allowed you to accomplish most tasks online, and semi competent operators who could help you with most tasks, to a ridiculously user unfriendly website where almost nothing can be accomplished, and clueless operators who have no idea how to help you.

At the end of the day they will sort this out in a few weeks (hopefully) and we will probably receive an email apologizing for any inconvenience. I hope they will be able to address the missed installments, additional unwanted tax withholding, and most of the other issues this nightmare has caused. Unfortunately, there are some things like reducing the amount of your monthly installments (which is what I am seeking to accomplish) for which you will simply have to reduce future payments even more to meet your yearly goal. I am flabbergasted by the fact that we actually have to come up with hacks to address this tortured new system.

Edit - at least some of you guys are getting through to an operator. I am still getting a fast busy when I dial the TSP line.

Hello fellow TSP'rs, I decided to give the sign in a try this morning. Seemed simple enough. Filled in the requested information and selected the provide additional information option instead of the Mail Option. It immediately defaulted to the Mail Option and wouldn't allow me to go back to the Provide Additional Information option. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, any hacks for getting around this problem? If not, I guess I am stuck waiting on the Mail. Ridiculous!

I am not sure if this answers your question because I’m not certain I understand it. However, one thing that does seem to be working on the website is the feature that allows you to change the way you receive communications from the TSP. Go to the person icon on the top right, and then select manage communications. From there scroll down to delivery options and select change. This allows you to toggle back-and-forth between email and postal mail.

On another subject, since I am here I may as well report that the wait time to speak to a representative on the TSP line was 80 minutes this morning. I don’t know how long this nonsense will last, but with potentially hundreds of thousands of people experiencing issues with the new website it may be a long time before we are able to get a quick answer about anything.

Also, the list of “known issues“ that the TSP website has published doesn’t begin to address the dozens of things that are wrong with the site.

    Thanks for the update.
I'm still trying to find where I can see the daily cost per share for the different funds so I can update my spreadsheet.
May the force be with us.

Why don’t you try tsp center, they use to track daily share prices and quite a few other things. I’m sure you can find the info there. If you wait for the official TSP website to bring this online you may be in for quite a wait.

Same here. On the share price history page I just get a message "Hmm, something isn't working".
I'm starting to think I better roll over my TSP to an IRA before they lose my account, but I'm leaving on a summer-long road trip soon so don't have time to do it.

Thanks Rc for the reply! I still haven't been able to sign in to open my new account yet. Hate to stay on hold on the phone tree so was looking for another way to get signed in without waiting for the Mail Option or staying on the phone for hours. Hacks anyone!

It is like they have two websites
one for you to login and see your personal stuff
one for general info,PDFs and share prices

after you log out try clicking on the TSP logo

    Thanks Rcf3,

I didn't know about the TSP Data Center. I was able to get the share prices for 6/1/22 but the share prices for 5/27 and 5/31 don't exist. So it looks like FTRIB froze our accounts for those two dates. The TSP Data Center shows 5/26 and 5/31 with the same numbers. Friday 5/27 and Tuesday 5/30 are not posted.
May the force be with us.

Yup, nothing for those dates. Whenever there is a holiday, or in this case no prices posted, the TSP Talk page just duplicates the prior business day's prices.
