Thread: has anyone had THIS problem with new site??

Default has anyone had THIS problem with new site??

I apparently succeeded in setting up new login, including setting up two-factor ID.. I received this confirmation email "A multi-factor authentication (MFA) method has been enrolled for your Thrift Savings Plan account for...".

I used Chrome browser on Win 8.1 tablet (not the app).

However, when I return to TSP site to sign in, I'm still being prompted to set up new login. Here are the steps:

When I navigate to tsp.gov, I see regular "Log in" button and two banners at the top of the page... one has the "Set up new login" button, and the other refers to high traffic volumes (see screenshot, below). I close (X) both banners and click the regular "Log in" button. That opens the pop-up warning "You are entering a United States government information system..." When I click the "Acknowledge" button to close the pop-up, there's now only the "Set up new login" button. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I'm guessing the server write a cookie once the user completes the new login process so it knows whether to display the regular "Login" button or the "Set up new login" button. I use the Cookie Keeper extension to manage which cookies are protected, so I'm guessing my browser deleted the new cookie before I realized it needed to be protected.

I'm concerned that starting over might cause other problem because the new login has already been set up on the server. Any thoughts?

Those boxes are there each time I go to tsp.gov but I am able to login - either clicking those X's to delete those pop ups, or not.

My guess is a lot of these issues are browser settings related. It may be why many are saying Windows 11 is working.

I don't understand all of that backend browser stuff all that much. I'm using windows 10 but don't have the issues.

Use Chrome to block the particular element using "inspect". It's easier though to use an extension that allows you to do this with two clicks.

I've done the New Login 3 times. Each one worked until the next day. I'll be doing a 4th New Login tomorrow to see how my fund did today. (This sucks!).

Bullitt's post gave me the idea that my script blocking extension may be causing problems (NoScript), so I disabled it and lo-and-behold, the login form appeared below the "Set up new login" button. I'm in. So I just need to whitelist the required script, and then I can join the rest of you in my horror at what TSP developers have laid upon us. So far, my BIGGEST concern is the lost of historical data. I can only imagine that's temporary. There's no way TSP management can consider that as an acceptable outcome of the redesign.

I just X out and close all those tabs, and log in. Now it’s working for me.

I have not yet been able to log in. Have made several attempts to create my new account. Each time when I reach the conclusion of the set-up I get a blank grey window field with tabs at the bottom and the logo at the top but nothing in the text field. This leads me to believe (at first) that it is just crunching away in the background so I wait....and wait....and wait....nothing. So then I close the window and try to log in only to be informed that I do not have an account. Calling for help is completely useless.

    Ramdielsel,

Any chance you have tried, or could try, Windows 11, with latest update?

I haven't upgraded to that but a few people says it helped. All of these type of issues sound like OS, security, or browser settings to me.

Others said using the phone app worked when the desktop didn't.

I already have windows 11. So...I downloaded the app to my phone. App (as expected) wants me to create a new account. When I finished setting up my new account (for the bazillionth time now) it gives me the log-in screen into which I enter my brand new username and password (and believe me I am being VERY careful to type it all correctly). Up pops a message telling me that my login has failed and then asks if I have set up a new account.

Okay so I was trying to set up my account on Chrome. I switched to Edge. No luck. Downloaded the app to my iphone11. Still no luck. Every time I create a user account the login screen does not acknowledge my account log-in as being legit...or something like that. Wow am I frustrated.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The inconsistency between users is baffling.

Not that it would probably make a difference, but I did mine using Firefox. Also, grasping at straws here, I saw this posted elsewhere:

If you're having issues setting up your TSP account, type in each block and disregard your computer's auto fill. I was constantly using the autofill for faster entry but I think it messed up my info. I deliberately started to type in each block late last last night. FINALLY broke through to the final page asking me security questions. It could also have been that I was logging in at midnight to avoid the crowd. Just my two cents. Hope this helps someone.
Thank you. The auto fill info was messing the system up completely. Definitely type everything in manually

If it doesn't work in private mode with all extensions disabled, it's not going to work.

There has to be server issues on their end. It sounds like the servers were overloaded resulting in all kinds of issues. Hopefully for all those in limbo, TSP will clear any hung accounts without a phone call.
