Trump to replace TSP board members amid growing anger over planned I fund expansion

Tensions appear to be rising over the relatively unassuming Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, which is pressing on this year with its plans to expand the international fund benchmark to emerging markets, including China.
President Donald Trump on Monday announced his plans to replace at least three of the current TSP board members — months after lawmakers spent much of 2019 calling for the FRTIB to reverse course with the international fund.

I recall reading about the I-Fund expansion to include China.

With that on his mind, now might be the ideal time for someone to grab President Trump's ear concerning our IFT limits... informing him that limited IFT's does not save $$$, but actually costs more. At least that was the case back in the day. This may drive him to appoint board members who would support unlimited IFT's.

Why? So we can be forced to invest in fraudulent companies? This is wrong on all levels.

The whole emerging market game is a fraud, you're always investing in the companies of tomorrow. C, S give more than enough exposure to foreign markets.

I don't have a problem with the daily IFT's returning, as long as it doesn't increase the fees.

As long as we don't get some cronies in position that will allow the administration to tap into our money. We might get lucky and get an extra IFT or two with some new blood.
May the force be with us.

This may be off base, but is there possible skimming too from TSP funds (not sure if its TSP Board, Blackrock or if its the process itself I don't understand)? If our purchase of C-fund shares somewhere down the line get integrated with real S&P shares at the TSP fund level, shouldn't TSP investors be due some dividend reinvestment similar to S&P equivalents mutual funds like Vanguard, etc? There has to be some type of real purchasing of S&P by the TSP/or BlackRock to hold up the C-fund, and if so, where do those dividends go? They definitely don't get distributed to C-fund buyers. Certainly Blackrock doesn't take all TSP contributions and just hold them in a separate account and just assign a percentage increase similar to s&p, etc -- there has to purchasing at the fund manager level in order to truly and fairly increase the value of the C-fund.

Also, when I-fund went from Barclays to, I think, Blackrock -- the dollar valuations between 12 pm EST and closing seem to be way off. I think 350zComtech or some other TSPTalk poster used to post the daily I fund close and dollar adjustment. Whoever the current fund manager of the I- fund is sure seems to short change the I-fund holders... but that may also be because the dollar to foreign currencies has also changed over the past decade.

I believe the price of the C-fund includes dividend payments. For instance, here's this year's returns thru 5/7 for the...

    S&P 500 (-10.82%)

SPY (-10.09%, which includes dividend payments)

    C-fund (-10.27%)

Thanks, Tom. You saved me from going on a google search frenzy on a BlackRock and FRTIB conspiracy.
