Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
S fund is smalll cap. for some reason I can't look up the wilshire 4500 fund on e-trade, so i track the russell 2000 ($RUT) which is pretty much dead on with what the S fund returns
i thought the same thing when I first joined (S fund tracking the dow), and was confused when dow would go negative and S fund would still give a nice return and vice versa
Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
The S fund tracks the Wilshire 4500 alright. The best way to track it I know of is to simply go to YAHOO FINANCE and set yourself up a free portfolio. With that you can dial it up from any computer or smartphone and watch what it , the dow S and P ect and any other stock you choose as they roll by delayed 20 minutes or half hour. Just make sure you click the real time tab in the upper right corner along the sidebar and it should keep rolling as long as your computer stays on. As for the tabs on TSP Talk that indicate those market sectors for me at least it's hard to figure at a glance which one is what by the way they are laid out especially using a smartphone. Using Yahoo finance just seems to work better at least for me.

Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
I noticed that too. I use stockcharts.com to track all of my tsp funds and it wouldnt pull up the S fund at all. I found that either the IWM (russel 2000) or the DJUSS (dow small cap index) track very closely to what the S fund is doing.

Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
The prices are different, but the "chart" is the same.
Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
That has always confused me as well.
Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
I know many of you are wondering what index our S fund tracks. Some of you use the IWM or DJUSS as a close chart to track. I contacted TSP and got the index that our S fund matches, which is the DWCPF. The problem with that is I couldn't find a chart that I could view for technical analysis so I contacted stockcharts.com. I submitted a request for DWCPF index to be added to their chart lists and as soon as they add it, I was told I would be notified. As soon as I hear back from them, I will update this post so you can all track the actual index that your money is being put in to.

Yea I know what you mean. I use SP-500 because I couldn't spread the other one past 3 days. Thanks.
Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
I use EWM pretty close. Sometimes a little different than the"S" due to charges levied by TSP.

twoday, I also did the same thing at StockCharts but like a year ago. I doubt they will add it unless a large number of folks request it. I've been using $emw which is the Wilshire and that tracks really well.

For now, I am using $DJUSS, but the $EWM chart looks pretty good too. Thanks
Re: DOW not matching S Fund share prices
I use W4500 on google finance and it has been pretty spot on. I can view chart as far back as I like and zoom into single day.
