Thread: Are you a narcissist?

well my first reaction was to shout "no", but i thought about it and "yes", i do have a high level of confidence borne from many years of experience and success. so i answered "sometimes", because sometimes when i get a few hours to myself and am just hangin out in my jockey shorts i'll catch a glimpse of myself in the hallway mirror and immediately think "lookin good, joel". but that's not really narcissism, is it?

Would a true narcissist be willing/able to admit they are one?

today's culture in general is narcissistic. just look at facebook, it's a giant penis measuring contest with everybody saying 'hey look at me!'

I have others for those who are interested, but they deal mainly with ACONs (Adult Children Of Narcissists). If you were raised by a Narc parent I pity you. No one believes you and you were setup from the outset to fail. Many ACONs aren't even aware of it themselves. If you are the type of person who is a chronic people pleaser or who keeps falling for the same loser guys you could be an ACON.

The links to definition apply to a "clinical" disorder that is normally diagnosed by a psychiatrist. That is, if you can manage to get the NPD person to a shrink. Such a rigid/detailed definition would exclude those who merely display a few narcissistic traits. I worded my post loosely to encourage participation and avoid scaring anyone off. Good read for those who might suspect a family member or friend of NPD...I think the narcissist already knows, they just don't see a problem with it.
