Thread: back pay?

    Default back pay?

do you think furloughed federal employees will receive back pay for the furlough period when it ends? and why?

(note: the question is will not should, the should poll is best discussed in the politics area).

    personally, i don't care. it's a win-win either way for me.

unemployment insurance - commute costs - student loan deferral = more net take home and free time off.

with the job search requirements of unemployment, sooner or later i will find a job that pays more than the one i got laid off from.
if i get called back to work at my old employer before then without back pay that's good because i love my job.
if i get called back to work at my old employer before then with back pay that's better because that's more money than i made on unemployment (which i have to pay back), but i still get to keep the free time off.

House already passed a bill to back pay us 407-0. Obama said he was in full support of back paying us in Tuesday press conference, sighting "that is how we have always done it". As a result, unless the senate wants to come out of this looking like even bigger dicks, we'll get paid.

I worked as usual, and was paid as usual. I have no reason to complain. I've heard a few complaints that it's not fair if you receive back pay for days you were furloughed, because you didn't work. But it's not like you were care-free and on vacation. You were stressing out about not being able to make ends meet. Personally I hope those who were furloughed do receive back pay.

I would not necessarily count on it. We have doubled our debt load over the last five years, our entitlement spending has bloated, and our future revenue growth is stunted (but growing).

Also, FY2014 is a 'Sequester the Molester' year. They may just use those days as sequester days...

The politicians will soon lose control of the situation. At that time it doesn't matter what they want to do and what the voters/population wants. We are nearing a point where we will not decide our fate... Then the cuts will come fast and hard...
Lookin' up at the 'G Fund'!!!
