Thread: I-Fund Trying to Breakout

  1. #1

    Default I-Fund Trying to Breakout

The action in the EFA (I-fund) went from a possible peak in a bear market, to a possible bull flag, to a bull flag breakout today. If that 200-day EMA weren't in the way I'd be looking at the I-fund more seriously now. If we can see 63.50 to 64.00, it would be game on for the I-fund.

Does a weaker dollar help or hurt the I Fund? Yesterday EFA was up over 1% and the I fund was only up .47%. The dollar (UUP) also weakened. I hope the mysterious fair value process is in our favor today.

Weaker dollar helps the I fund. The low gain for the I fund yesterday was due to the fact that the US markets took off late in the day.

Back when we had unlimited trades, we use to play the fair value game. There were some sharp people on the board who could almost predict the fair value +/- to the penny each day.

And with the USD down about 1.2% today, which doesn't happen often, it will be interesting to see what the I fund return will be at the end of the day.

Europe up big and the dollar is falling pretty good today. It could be a big day for the I-fund... but we know what happens when we talk about it...

Sounds like you think the guys at BlackRock regularly read this thread. The cynic in me says they do.

My theory is that they watch the TSP members move buy after the deadline and sell it to us at the higher price after the close.

It's more of a superstition thing for me. Every time I brag about a position or how good I'm doing, etc., the market gods seem to humble me.

It's true of everything, whether poker, investments, sports, etc. The universe makes the cocky pay by swatting us back to reality.

(remember richard sherman during the 3rd quarter of the superbowl bragging about outplaying Regis (sp?) when Seattle had a 10-point lead?)
