    The Inflation vs Deflation Debate

Inflation is clearly an issue here and now, but that’s old news. What’s more important is what happens next. There are multiple signals that suggest inflation will drop, perhaps sharply, in the next few months. All of the economic activity data I’m watching—save perhaps for existing home sales, which are decelerating too—are missing expectations, some by a mile.

So, couple of months since last post so I'm going to throw this out there:

As benefits for unemployed pople expire this month, do you think it will have enough affect on employment costs and drive some labor costs down which will help stifle inflation?

I may be over-estimating the level of effect, but would like to know your thoughts.

Good point. Seems most employers have been preparing for this by offering signing bonuses instead of permanent wage increases.

After the handouts dry up, many job seekers will lose their bargaining power because their need to find work will outweigh the employers need to find workers.
