    Weekly jobless claims miss estimates as employment gains taper off

    Weekly jobless claims totaled 884,000 last week vs. estimates of 850,000.

    Continuing claims totaled 13.385 million, an increase of 93,000 from the previous week.

    Weekly jobless claims higher than expected

    Jobless claims totaled 744,000 for the week ended April 3, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

    That was above the Dow Jones estimate of 694,000 and the previous week’s 728,000.

    Continuing claims nudged lower as did the total of those receiving benefits.

    Weekly jobless claims total hits new pandemic-era low of 364,000

    Initial jobless claims totaled 364,000 last week, below the 390,000 Dow Jones estimate.

    That was the lowest total in the Covid pandemic era as the jobs market continues healing.

    There are still more than 11 million Americans receiving benefits through pandemic-related programs.

    U.S. jobless claims total 375,000, falling for a third straight week

    New claims for jobless benefits totaled 375,000 last week, the Labor Department said, matching estimates from economists surveyed by Dow Jones.

    The reading for the previous week was revised upward by 2,000 to 387,000 claims.

    The number of insured unemployment claims, a measure of continuing jobless claims, fell to 2.866 million for the last week of July, according to Thursday’s report. That is the lowest level since mid-March 2020.

    Jobless claims hit new pandemic-era low in a sign of hope for the employment picture

    Jobless claims totaled 348,000 for the week ended Aug. 14, below the estimate for 365,000 and down 29,000 from the week before.

    Continuing claims fell to 2.82 million, as both counts marked new pandemic-era lows.

    A separate report showed that manufacturing growth in the Philadelphia region was lower than expected.

    Weekly jobless claims hold around pandemic-era low; GDP revised higher to 6.6%

    First-time jobless claims filings totaled 353,000 for the week ended Aug. 21, higher than the previous week and just above the Dow Jones estimate.

    Second-quarter GDP was revised up to 6.6%, though that was a touch below the 6.7% estimate.

    Weekly jobless claims post sharp drop to 310,000, another new pandemic low

    Weekly jobless claims totaled 310,000 for the week ended Sept. 4, another fresh low for the pandemic era.

    That was below the Dow Jones estimate of 335,000 and a decline from the previous week’s 345,000.

    Continuing claims fell to 2.78 million, a drop of 22,000.

    And with record job openings, it's hard to see a recession coming. Many will be forced back into the water after the extended benefits expire this week.

    KEY POINTS

    Weekly jobless claims totaled 362,000 last week, an increase of 27,000 from the previous week and above the 335,000 estimate.

    Continuing claims rose to 2.84 million.

    The economy grew at an annualized pace of 6.7% in the third quarter, slightly above estimates.

    KEY POINTS

    Weekly jobless claims totaled 326,000 last week, a drop of 38,000 from the previous week and below estimates for 345,000.

    Continuing claims fell to 2.71 million, a decline of 97,000.

    The total of those receiving benefits under all programs tumbled to 4.17 million as enhanced pandemic-related programs ran out.
