Thread: buy burro a belt

    Default buy burro a belt

    so there is this belt i really, really want. and i am proposing a mix of a "fund-my-dream" slash "raffle" slash "admin fee" arrangement to get there, but we can talk about the details of that later. anyways, the goal is to raise $220 bucks and buy this belt while giving away an ounce of tsptalk silver and covering somebody's time, toil, and trouble (triple-t, which is convenient because i call the belt triple-b, buy burro a belt).

    the belt can be found here: https://www.slidebelts.com/products/survival-belt. there are pictures and descriptions and also a video of this brilliant idea belt, check it out.

    it is a cool belt that can do lots of things, and i want to do lots of things with this belt, here is some of the great things about this belt:
    * stylish in a minimalistic but functional way
    * features a ratchet design to accommodate expanding waistline (ratchet, no holes!)
    * holds pants up
    * versatile multi-use strap (for like dragging a cavewoman home or whatever)
    * led flashlight (the better to see you with, dear)
    * bottle opener
    * fire starting tool (obvious benefits too numerous to list)
    * knife blade

    so out of the $220 goal, this is where the money would go if you pledge:
    * $180 for the belt for me including shipping
    * $20 for the ounce of tsptalk silver for the raffle winner including shipping
    * $20 for somebody's triple-t to administer the program or donate to charity or website fee

    this poll is open-ended (it could take awhile and sometimes i need a break from dancing like a circus monkey on the street corner with a tin cup), multiple choice (in case you want to change your opinion or contribute more later), and anonymous (no need to explain why or how much you gave to buy a donkey a belt, that could get awkward). we can work out the details later if we get to $220. anybody who contributes any amount above zero is eligible for the raffle.

    buy burro a belt.

    ...And once or twice you criticized me for spending frivolously on a nice watch..which by the way is way more practical than a belt, also I paid for it myself...and if you come back now and say a Timex would do just as good, I'd reply to that; so would a rope like Jethro and Elly May wore is just as good....just saying

    well, i have some good news, and some bad news...

    the bad news is...

    i thought within 24 hours i would have a new belt shipping on the way, but the response has been less than i expected. but i thank very much the positive contributions, especially whoever took the generous $20 flyer. thanks.

    the good news is...

    only two people responded that they wouldn't pee on fire to put me out, honestly i expected that demographic cohort to be much much higher.

    this might be a long haul here, i guess just wait and see where it goes for a bit before busting out my next level dancing moves.

    well. hmmm.

    buster, i did make fun of your watch collection because it seemed ostentatious to me, most cost more than my car and i can't wear a car around my wrist, even an angry ex girlfriend can't make me wear a car on my arm, and believe me she frikkin tried. i also realized it was something you care a lot about. i did buy a seiko field watch on your recommendation, and i did wear it for about three months. i enjoyed it, but decided watches were not my thing. i also have apologized for that at least a couple times and never made fun of watches again since. so that is what it is.

    as for belts, if you watch (pun intended) the video you might recognize that where and what that guy is doing with that belt, time does not matter. but the belt does. to each their own. i would rather have a practical belt out in the country with no idea what exact time it is, than to be standing on a train platform staring at a masterpiece on my wrist with my drawers around my ankles. but again, to each their own.

    peace. and thanks for the dollar.

    It seems like a waste of money. Everyone knows you're not going to use it to hold up your pants.

    I just wanted you to know Burro that I'm the guy who volunteered to give you a dollar. After some serious thought (and yes it hurt) I decided who am I to keep a friend from following their dreams....weird dreams but dreams nonetheless...

    well i put in $20 myself to basically cover the tsptalk silver coin raffle item since i have a little experience and lots of fun giving away silver in the past. of course as the eventual winner of the way cool grand prize belt, i won't be eligible for the silver booby prize, but i am excited to see who gets it.

    what comes around, goes around, i figure. i have given away at least 8 pieces of tsptalk silver for free and for fun and for folks who won or contributed bookkeeping to the burros-ark system and other things, so i don't feel too bad about it. this silver i put in would make 9 so times that by $20 and i have already spent the $180 cost for the belt and got nothing in return, except for the joy and satisfaction of seeing happy people. so that is a good thing in my book.

    gotta admit that thing is pretty sweet. and for every survival related thing you gotta have a beer opener. that's not debatable
