FYI, this issue is gone. It was probably video driver related, and just needed a restart.

Unless you mean $10/mo. for that Office 365 thing...or something else...$10 since you already have a valid key?
Burro answered for me. The home use program is pretty awesome. I would not be using (genuine) Office otherwise . Office is actually FREE for android devices.

I also use Google docs for some things that I primarily use on my phone (i.e. I have spreadsheet for my vehicles as make an entry any time I spend $$ on them, including gas) because I can access them anywhere I can get to a browser, but I don't believe I've ever encountered a piece of software as every-day useful and powerful as Microsoft Excel.

The Wi-Fi Sense feature embedded in Windows 10 may make life easier for users, but could it also compromise corporate network security?

i have read some of the links about turning off default privacy settings, but is there a short complete goto list for choices/options to take when setting up windows 10?

i have been computing exclusively by android phone for at least a year and a half now after my old computer took a dump. my son's new laptop already got delivered to a contact at what will be our new hometown/my duty station as i am being direct reassigned to an area of critical workload need. so next week sometime after i get the lights turned on and the cable guy/gal hooks up our internet, i will be firing up a new dell and may as well just jump right in to windows 10 i figure.

i am excited to have a regular computer again with actual buttons and a keyboard.

It may vary based upon your needs, but here's something I found for you:

i do it mostly on the back of a cocktail napkin and just type it on the phone. it is more intuitive that way.

Got Windows 10. Seems there are audio driver issues. One day I have audio next, nope. Went through the usual Device Manager crap, guess what? NOTHING WRONG WITH MY FULLY UP TO DATE DRIVERS!

Found some Windows 10 support sites. Their advice? Go to Device Mannager...blah...blah...blah... Turns out this has been a known issue since they released it to Insiders in Feb. I can only blame myself...

Yup. Same story since Windows 3.11. Same mouse trap. Same results.

Hope you eventually get it squared away.

    To All,

Performing a fresh install is weird in the Windows 10 world - at least with the free update.

Basically, from what I have read, you have to allow Microsoft to update your existing Windows. The license key requested by the manual fresh install is NOT your existing Product Key so helpfully placed on your legally purchased computer/operating system. Microsoft is using the key and some Genuine Advantage thang to determine if your current operating system is legal. I think they are giving the benefit of the doubt as well...

Anyway, the way I am doing it:
    1. Imaged my existing system to my new SSD
    2. Allow that copy of Windows (on my SSD) to be upgraded
    3. Then use the tool I mentioned earlier to wipe out the system and rebuild from scratch
    4. I will then install all the software I actually want as of today and copy the data from my thumb drive.

That way, I have my old hard drive (which actually had some bad sectors) to retrieve data from or to use if Microsoft hammers my stuff...

    Very round about, eh...

Also, note that Microsoft is using a hardware key on your physical machine to keep track of legal ownership. The 'Activation' sends this key (probably in the BIOS) to Microsoft which then stores it in a database along with the internal Windows 10 product key.
Lookin' up at the 'G Fund'!!!

So today I've made two attempts to download the free upgrade and both times it failed. I think I'll wait awhile before trying again...No sense in mucking up the fountain!!!

Oh Christ- now there is THIS!

    -------------

Man upgrades to Windows 10 – it shows his wife his entire porn collection

    Source: Metro UK

A man woke up to his wife asking why his computer was showing off a slideshow of eye-wateringly hard porn, after he upgraded to Windows 10.

He claims he upgraded to Windows 10 late at night, then woke up to his wife goggling at a screensaver of distinctly fruity images.

Writing on Reddit under the username FalloutBoS, he said, ‘Woke up to wife asking why I set it to rotate all my porn images right on the desk top view.

‘I have no idea how to shut that feature off and that computer is staying shut down until I do.’

‘Don’t make my mistake, keep your private pictures out of My Pictures, no matter how deep you hide them in sub folders.’

By default, the new OS creates a screensaver using images in the computer’s Pictures folder.

Users wishing to – ahem – keep certain images private are advised to ensure they’re not in the Pictures folder.
