its also how you definte "what works". nothing is 100%, we all know that, but if you mix the risk/reward and the overbought/oversold indications that the charts give you with some asset allocation, you can preserve money in the falls, feel more comfortable about buying the lows, and also take advantage of markets that go sideways with a lot of up and down volatility... its the flat lining effect on charts of the bull market that makes it hard to make any money off swing trading the indicators. I get outperformed in the breakout bull markets but make up for it the rest of the year... which is the majority of the year in almost all cases.

I think for the folks who are new to trading in their TSP accounts this is a great discussion. I am fairly new to this and my method may be simplistic. I am continuing to learn and add indicators to help out with the trades. Right now I’m using RSI, MACD and Slow Stochastics. Since I’m trading swings and not trying to trade daily these have been working well. I do have a tendency to be early in and out, but I chalk that up to being fairly new to trading. My indicators had me out of the market in May and the end of October.

Right now I’m sitting on the lily pad waiting for a good reentry.

When volume is up on the up days and low on the down days the trend is up.
When volume is up on the down days and low on the up days the trend is down. Or at lest the trend is changing.
