    Default Property Taxes

What is yours?...Most people squirrel away their taxes and insurance in an escrow account to cover theirs..I pay mine out of pocket as they come due..

My annual Property tax this year due at the end of the month (Tomorrow) is $3998.00...Oklahoma, Cleveland Co.

San Antonio. It really depends on the value of the home, how long you owned property (max increase in home value 10%/year) and any exemptions. I just have homestead exemption which saves me about $300/year and have been here 11 years. Mother has been here 38 years, over 65 and her tax is $1600 for property $50K less than mine. My Uncle who lived in Dallas for 41 years & over 65 was a disable veteran--his property tax was only $250/year in 2004 (2016 Taxes <1/2 value my house currently ~$3K). So if you qualify for disabled veteran exemption, Texas may be a good option.

My Wife's Father lives in Dallas. He has never complained about taxes that I recall.
We are building a second home down on Lake Livingston. My Brother In Law lives there and taxes is one of the reasons we chose that location. We used to have a place in Kingwood, taxes ate me up there but really I just wanted our other place out of the congestion.
My Head Quarters is in San Antonio, I spend a week or so a year down there. Got a Nephew that has a home there and he is no fan of the taxes. Got another Nephew and Niece that live in Austin. They don't complain because they live in my Sisters second home.

Mine was $1,000 but I'm an Old Fart and pay less. Central GA. isn't so bad I imagine Atlanta is a different story.

1476 sqft on almost a half acre (.48) 88X240 almost another 240 deep all woods to the tracks (someone else owns that)
    Market Value $198,300
    2014 property tax $5710.00
State and County tax 8.5% (highest in the state)

My 2016 taxes should be close to 2014 but I will have to look when I get home.
May the force be with us.

We had a home in Westland, Michigan then.
Wife decided that was not going to be her backup plan if anything happens to me. Heck, who would shovel the snow.
Sold that place, going to build a new place in Texas. My Sister is trying to get us to buy a place in Key largo.
In Dog Beers I've only had two.

My relatives live in Texas and their real estate taxes are high , but on the positive side there is no state income tax. I lived in Nebraska for 3 years and their real estate taxes rose from 2,200 to 2,900 on a $135,000 house - (that was 10 years ago) and you also had to pay state income taxes. I was glad to transfer.

It is all relative. Sales tax here is 8.125% excluding groceries & medicine (I think). I'm still considering relocating to Cheyenne, but need to schedule a trip before making a final decision. Lived there for 5 years--sales tax about 3% less, property tax <1/3rd of Texas and no state income tax.
