    Re: 26 or 27 contributions for 2016?

Thank you for the prompt reply. Does PP26 / December 25th - January 07th count for 2016 or 2017? My first contribution for 2016 was PP25 / Dec 13, 2015, if that helps.

    Thank you again.

    Re: L2040 vs L2050

I think it depends on how long you have to go until you retire. If you have several years, which I will guess you do since you are buying L2040 shares, then I would consider buying the L2050.

  6. Re: TSP have compound interest? Unbelievable example inside!

Almost 2 years later and still have yet to see or understand TSP compound interest.
I just have a lot more shares which at the moment are worth a lot more...

Can someone provide an example of...
  7. Re: Sold in the AM, what day did I actually sell?

Thank you. At what time of the day does the closing price post? What time is the deadline to sell on that day?

    Thanks again.
  8. Sold in the AM, what day did I actually sell?

I made an interfund transfer at 0700 eastern time Monday morning. Did I sell at the Monday or Tuesday's share price?

    Thank you.
  9. Re: When to move / sell? How much did the shares cost?

I understand we are buying shares and you get more for your dollar when the share price is low. If a share is a share, where does the compound interest & maturity factor come into play?
  10. Re: When to move / sell? How much did the shares cost?

The maturity of a share as in the compound interest the share has earned?

So, what about the shares from 2005 that have matured? If the shares I bought in Jan 2005 and the shares in Dec...
  11. Looking back at November - Best moves? (Trying to break the buy & hold cycle)

With the exception of contribution allocation changes, I have been buying and holding pretty much since joining the TSP. I know the moto of this site and would like to join in on the fun of trading....
  12. Re: Is this too agressive for just starting out.

How do you know what price you bought in if you have been buying for years and each time purchased was a different price?
  13. When to move / sell? How much did the shares cost?

A co-worker was explaining that IF you are to move funds, you want to move the funds when they are valued at the highest. Buy low sell high. My question to him was, I've been buying in the same...
  14. Maxing out contributions to the extreme, couple of questions

I have been contributing $635 a pp for just over a year now. I am now in a very good financial situation where I can contribute a larger dollar amount to my TSP. You always read the earlier / more...
  15. Re: What is classified as a contribution?

Agency contributions do NOT count toward the $16,500. The payments to your loan do NOT count toward the $16,500 either.
The $635 club is a good thing. I've been a member for just over a year...
  16. Re: TSP have compound interest? Unbelievable example inside!

Sorry to bump such an old thread. Here we are over 5 years later and I am still uneducated about how compound interest ties in to the account.

When you look at a TSP account balance I see...

    Re: How NOT to retire:

If you can only save 77k in your TSP by the time you retire then you either have
    1) poor saving habit
    2) poor spending habit

For a lot of people this (77k) is less than 5 years of contributing...
  18. When is best time to make Interfunds transfer?

    I have been buying in the S & I for the past few years. I recently made a contribution allocations change to 80% L2040 & 20% L2030.

Basically, how does one know when it's a good time to move...

A co-worker and myself were discussing TSP. He mentioned that he has been putting in 17% for the past few years. I was pretty amazed by the number considering I just bumped mine to 15% from 13%. ...
