Thread: TSP Distribution

    Default TSP Distribution

Hello I am recently browsing the TSP Talk forum again after some absence. My husband and I are both retired 63 and 67. I do not plan on making any withdrawals for at least another 5 years. We are looking at redistributing our TSP allocations. After much research I have come up with the following distribution recommended on several sites.

    G Fund 50%
    C fund 40%
    S fund 10 %

A ratio of 4:1 was recommended for the C:S fund

I have also read some posts on using seasonal adjustments. So moving all to G fund during Summer/Fall and then moving it back to C/S during Nov-April.
Any comments/suggestions. Also where is the best place to look on this website for information on TSP distribution recommendations/changes? Thanks Regina

If your holding period is going to be five years, then that's a good allocation for your age.

Do some reading on market timing using seasonality before you decide on such a thing. Stock Traders Almanac is published yearly and is the gold standard for such endeavors.

Thank you for your feedback. I am also looking at subscribing to the Premium Services. Now that I am retired I have time on my hand to focus on the TSP. I have looked at the samples but I am not sure I understand what information is provided in each newsletter and how they differ? Could someone give a brief explanation? My husband already subscribes to Zacks and Stockcharts. for managing our other non TSP accounts. Thanks, Regina

I have attached an excel spreadsheet that shows how the GFCSI funds have finished over the years. You can use this as a comparison for making your adjustment in your TSP. Good luck in retirement. My previous post had an older version of Excel. The attachment below is a newer version and should open.
