New Legislation Promises to ‘Fix’ Social Security Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP)

Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA) introduced legislation on Sept. 27 that promises to “fix the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) for future retirees and provide meaningful relief to current WEP retirees.”
WEP reduces the Social Security benefits of local, state and federal retirees who worked in Social Security-covered employment (e.g., private-sector jobs) and who also receive a government annuity from their non-Social Security covered government employment. [More]

Bills to address WEP are introduced every year, and every year they die with no action. Unfortunately I doubt this year will be any different. I ended up working until I had my full 30 years paying into SS so that I avoided the WEP reduction.

Looks like the boys in Congress are making another run at eliminating WEP. Not holding my breath but it is good to know there are folks fighting for its repeal. Enjoy!
