    olefoggie,

No one will tell you what to do with your money. It's your money and it depends on what you will be comfortable with. I retired in 2012 and I have been aggressive in my TSP, but I'm comfortable with this. I have moved around a little bit since 2012 into C and I funds but have mostly stayed in S. Since 2012 I have had 4 positive years and 2 negative years. My best year was 37% and last year was my worst at a negative 12%.
You have to do what you are comfortable with. Maybe try a little at a time. Check out what people are doing on the AutoTracker and see how they have distributed their funds. Being retired you are not adding anything to your TSP account. Also you only have 2 IFT's a month to move your money around. After 2 IFT's you can only move money back to the G fund.
    Good luck.
May the force be with us.

    1. No one can make that decision except for you.

    2. If it were ME, and I didn't have a great deal of confidence in the markets, I'd still try and at least catch what the experts who set up the TSP have created for risk-adverse people. That is the "L Fund family."

If it was me, and I was ready to start taking money OUT of the TSP, I'd at least move it to the L-Income fund, which provides a significant portion to be exposed to stocks. It's not as risky as putting all of your money into a single stock fund, but it IS more diverse that the totally without-risk "G" fund alone.

I'd be 100% in L-Income, if I was not comfortable with anything else.

Some good advice here from 2 of the longest TSPTalkers!

I have several questions, that you need to ask yourself. That might help you decide.

Why did you stay so long in G, since ‘08? Jitters from the downturn? What did you do before ‘08?
Did you just realize the ‘risk’ of the so-called ‘risk free’ G, is the risk of losing out to inflation?

Whatever you decide, do NOT leave everything in G! TSPTalk tag line is ‘Friends don’t let friends buy and hold’ and ‘Buy low, sell High’. Not ‘sell low, and move everything to G’. I was constantly telling my co-workers this same thing before I retired.
(Hey Tom, maybe you should add to your tag line....’Friends don’t let friends buy and hold G’!!!)

Good Luck in your Retirement, and Good Luck in your future investing!
There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who know binary, and those that don't!!
    Retired on December 31, 2018!!
