Thread: TSP Monthly Payments and Form TSP-70

  1. Default TSP Monthly Payments and Form TSP-70

If I leave my funds in my TSP account and choose to receive monthly payments what happens to the remaining money when I die? Would my spouse automatically get it?
Since I am not taking an annuity and Form TSP-70, section 2 requires my wife to sign a benefits waiver, I want to be sure she is not surrendering her rights to any remaining funds upon my death.
Also, upon my death would she continue to receive monthly payments or be forced to withdraw the remaining funds?

The account goes to your beneficiary(s). Your spouse could keep it as a beneficiary account or roll it over to an outside IRA. If beneficiary is not a spouse, they can roll it over to inherited IRA and take RMDs or cash it out & pay the taxes (latter not recommended)
