Thread: Question Regarding Automated Tracker

  1. Default Question Regarding Automated Tracker

Hope I'm asking this in the right place. If I look at the tracker for today, the I fund shows .54% gain. If I click on I fund in the ranking, then click on I fund in the allocation page, I get the returns analysis which shows a .58% gain. Yesterday the ranking showed a 2.09% gain and the returns analysis showed 2.22%. The top ranked members showed 2.26% yesterday and .6 for today. What's up with that? Thanks for your insight.

This is a common mistake that is made when comparing returns and not taking into account that a return to date compounds the periodic returns of prior days, weeks, and months. You are subtracting the I fund return of +8.87% on 10-29 from +8.29% on 10-26 and seeing a difference of 0.58%. This is not the daily return for 10-29. The I fund price on 10-26 was 25.88 and on 10-29 was 26.02. This is (26.02-25.88)/25.88 = 0.0054 or +0.54%. Then you look at the Member Rankings and see a Daily Return since 10-26 of 0.54% for the I fund. This is the correct daily return for the I fund. We calculate the return to date for 10-29: prior return to date on 10-26 (1+0.0829) X (1+0.0054) = 1.0887, or 8.87% for new return to date.

You are having trouble with the autotracker here on TSPTalk or in TSP.gov?

I saw it last night when only the top 14 names appeared on the "Full List" of Tracker standings...this morning, I am able to view the top 66 names. Unfortunately, I am not one of them

I really feel blessed to have this site available to us.
I was also taking a usual look to see if I had Murphy (from Murphy's Law) put me at the very bottom of thr tracker. I accessed the markets and I saw that most were losing $$$ yesterday. Since I bailed,
G-100%, this got a small smile out of me. I just get caught up in all the hype put out by the wrong forcasters on the wrong day and I crashed, again. Not to be synical, but I hope the crash continues for another week.
I had problems then I got sucked into work then I came back and it was fine.

I've come to realize that there are many news-based puppets out there doing their best to manipulate prices in their favor. Price pays, that's what I follow, OBTW Tom, thanks for fixing the tracker!
