I expect core inflation to decline gradually over 2007, and expect the Fed to initiate easing in the spring to help facilitate a soft landing. A flat reading by the PCE (personal consumption expenditures) index could increase confidence that the deceleration in inflation is real. The main reason for my upbeat assessment is the outlook for consumer spending, which continues to improve thanks to a competitive labor market that is pushing up wages. My arrogance tells me I'll do even better in 2007 - been building the base for enhanced performance rather than chasing percentages - I've been disciplined in my approach to accumulate shares - and the base is ready to climb to new peaks in 2007. Besides, everyone is a genius in a bull market.
