Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
I can understand the desire to do this, but as a person just starting out it is a tough pill to swallow.

Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
"temporary" may last until the tax base increases-meaning employment rates come back down below 7%-of working age people (working age may be redefined periodically based on SS age-eligibility bumps). Poll, poll, where's my poll, BC, James? anybody? How long will "temporary" last? til 2012? 2014? 2017? 2021?

Obama administration announces two-year federal pay freeze

Federal employees will not receive any pay increases for two years, Obama administration officials announced on Monday.
President Obama's proposed pay freeze for 2011 and 2012 will apply to all civilian workers, including Defense Department employees, but not military personnel. According to the White House, the freeze will save $28 billion over the next five years. The measure is a continuation of the administration's Accountable Government Initiative, designed to cut cost and save taxpayer dollars.

Will monitor this thread for wailing and gnashing of teeth.
BUT - This is a good thing. Your pay DIDNT get cut.
Count your blessings.
Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
A 2 year pay freeze will really hurt our new fed workers… I guess this will help control federal spending in DC… If you believe that will happen, hmmmmm No Comment… LOL:blink::blink:
Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
And so it begins. The republicans proposed this, along with many other anti-government employee actions, at Youcut: http://republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut/week2.htm
Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
What about ATC folks who have a pay increase in their contract for 2 more years?
Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
I guess the question to ask, "Is this for cost of living increases or are we talking about freezing promotion steps and advances?".
Who knows the answer?
One more thing...those who are waiting to get their high three for retirement...isn't this a reason for not waiting...and just go ahead and retire?
Re: Pay Freeze Announcement
I'm sifting through all the verbage..But I haven't seen anything that says Promotions will be curtailed or held in a save pay status...Including PCS moves...Only no COLAs for two years...
I remember under the Reagan admin years..this was a year in, year out SOP..NO raises or promotions period! ...indefinitely.
Additionally..The premium costs of your FEHBP..Etc will continue to go up..so in essence, it is a pay cut
