James48843 Account Talk
I moved to "G" today, thinking we got a nice upswing this week, but the news out today was not great, and since we've already had a big up for the month- I figured it will pull back next week about two percent or so. Anyway, that's where I think we are now.
We'll see.
100% "G" as of today. I am anticipating a lower opportunity next week to buy back in- and if I can clip 1% It will be good.

Any thoughts on how oil will play into the equation this summer?
-
Re: James48843 Account Talk
BY the way-
Moved to number 26 today on the autotracker. I had been below 100 two months ago. I am now beating the "best performing" index by 1.26% (That would be the F so far this year) AND beating the S&P500 by 6.67% so far this year.
And have only made 2 moves in february, 2 moves in March, and - until today- only two moves in April. today was a third move.
Being able to do it on only one in and one out per month is going to be challenging.
But the object is just to BEAT the S&P500. If you can do that, you are successful. Anything above that is extra.
And limiting to only two moves per month has made me think much more thoroughly before pulling the trigger to make a move.
Discipline. That will be THE key on two moves per month.

Oil is going to have a major drag on the economy. I put 92 bucks worth into my wife's truck tonight. That was money that I could have used elsewhere. ANd I think it will take months for all the affect of higher oil prices to work it way through the economy.
I think we'll have a slowing summer-
I think the econmy is going to continue to have a bad time for months, if not a year, to digest what $4 gas means to the average Joe.

Beating the "C" fund by 6.73% so far.
Sitting now in "G".
Waiting for the opportunity to buy back in.

Look, Listen and Learn. Good Idea Right Now !

You do know there are two "G" spots, right? As you continue to learn you will undoubtly find the other one - good luck in your endeavors.

u say 2 G spots, do tell ???? i know of 1 !!!

Re: James48843 Account Talk
The second "G" spot is located posterior to the C fund - use your imagination. Kinda like up behind the C fund. One has to be correctly positioned to earn the reward.

If you aren't carefully positioned the S fund may surprise you.;)

I heard that the S Fund goes both ways, up and down.
I think I'll stay away from the S Fund, I prefer the G.

Interesting to see people performing an IFT today not realizing that it goes into affect May 1st and will count as their first IFT for the month.

If you do it electronically before NOON today it is effective COB today April 30. It is the last IFT for April. If it's done after 12 NOON, then it's the first IFT for May.
Ladies and gentlemen, position yourselves and start your engines.

I do believe an IFT done at COB today would not be processed (effective) until tomorrow and be your 1st IFT for May.
Q2. What are the new limits on interfund transfers? http://www.tsp.gov/resources/top.gif
For each calendar month, the first two IFTs can redistribute a participant’s account among any or all of the TSP funds. After that, for the remainder of the month, participants may only move money into the Government Securities Investment (G) Fund (in which case the participant will increase the percentage of the account held in the G Fund by reducing the percentage held in one or more of the other TSP funds).
We will count the interfund transfer based on its process date, not the date the interfund transfer is requested.
If the first or second interfund transfer in a month moves money only to the G Fund, it still counts toward the two (2) unrestricted interfund transfers per month limit.
http://www.tsp.gov/faq/faq14.html
Go to Information about limits on IFTs (updated link) at top center of the page.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
I believe luv2read is correct. The last few email TSP confirmations of IFT's I've submitted before noon stated the effective date was that same day.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
I am correct. The timing and posting of electronic IFT's has not changed.- IFT requested before 12 NOON will be posted COB that same day.
- IFT requested AFTER 12 NOON will be posted COB the following day.
From now (2:06PM EST 4/30) until 12 NOON tomorrow 5/1, all IFT's requested will be posted COB May 1 and count as your first IFT for May.
AND:
good news for all who were restricted:

Good luck!
FRTIB is obviously handling this the same way as when they imposed the restrictions March 31...they consider 12 NOON the cutoff because anything done after that time will be posted COB the following day.

Fed cuts rates by one-quarter point
By Ruth Mantell
Last update: 2:15 p.m. EDT April 30, 2008
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Moving to revitalize the economy, the Federal Reserve cut the key federal funds rate target by one-quarter of a percentage point to 2.0% -- matching Wall Street's expectations. The rate cut brought the Fed's target for overnight interest rates to the lowest level since December 2004. The FOMC emphasized higher inflationary pressures and downplayed risks to growth, a signal that the committee may leave rates steady at the next meeting.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
I expect it down to the 1365 range tomorrow.
One thing that I will say is that I have been extrememly surprised at how strong the market has held up the last couple days. I was expecting 1365 yesterday or the day before, but now it looks tomorrow will be the best shot to get there and fill in that gap.
If so, then I think we'll have a nice run up over the next week or so.
-
Re: James48843 Account Talk
I think the bear are going to try to pull the market back but my plan is for the F Fund to get to about $12.20 - $12.23 and move my 1st IFT over to the C,S, and I. The best day I see would be Friday after the reports. That is my plan under the new rules.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
The good news-
I'm beating the S&P500 by 7.01% and it's only May.
AND
I'm only in 24th place. So there are a whole lot of others doing better than me.
but I AM getting nervous here. I WISH I had the ability to move more often than two per month-so I have to be very careful about using them.
Best of luck everyone!

Sorry-
I moved May 1st into stocks-
35% "C"
35% "S"
30% "I"
But it was late enough that it counted as number 1 move for May. So I have been very careful in not making the move out too soon. I'm to the point now that I've banked a nice gain this month, and am thinking of going to sidelines to hold on to the gains- because I keep seeing this oil price going up, and am sure we'll get hit with a second downturn shortly.
I think the tax rebates are proping up this cycle on the wave- people may be buying stocks with their rebates.
But the gas has to run out (that's a metphore) soon, and I really think we'll have at least one more good down cycle soon.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
James,
You made a great move. I remember having seen your P&F chart as well as your decision to move in. Frankly, I was still quite shaken by the previous, obscenely unfair, restrictions to do any IFTs during April. I was thinking also of the May negative seasonality and expected an earlier downturn. So, I have no excuses, but I failed to move in so I am still in the F fund. Congratulations! :):)
As for me, I am waiting for a downturn because I believe it is too risky right now to move into the stock funds after such an upside run, and in a very overextended market.

"He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income" (Ecclesiastes 5:10).
A successful businessman once confided in another businessman known for his wisdom. "I've made a lot of money. I will soon be able to retire comfortably and do just about anything I want."
"John," the wise businessman replied to the man, "I've noticed that every time someone thinks they've built a tree that is so tall it almost reaches heaven, God often decides to shake the tree."
The minute we start trusting in riches, God will, in fact, "shake the tree" to demonstrate who is the source of wealth to turn us back to trusting Him completely. He did it in my life, and He'll do it in your life too because He loves us too much to allow us to continue down this destructive path.
Money is mentioned more than 2,000 times in the scripture. Jesus used it many times in illustrating an important lesson to his disciples. He spoke often of being a good steward of the resources He entrusted to us. He wanted a return on His investment and He wanted us to stay away from making money an idol in our lives.
Jesus understood that He was here on earth only to do the will of the Father. "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; He can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does."
As we look at our relationship to our heavenly Father and our use of money, it is clear that we, like Jesus, are here to do the will of the Father in all areas of life. This means seeking to live a life that is totally yielded to His purposes -even in the financial area.
Money, independence, and security are often the reasons many start their own businesses or change jobs. Check your motives today and see if your financial life can stand Jesus' scrutiny. Are you operating as a steward of the financial resources He has entrusted to you?

Re: James48843 Account Talk
Enjoy it- makes you think for a while.
God, I know You have chosen me for a purpose.
As I read this my first thought was You have "made me" for a purpose. Because our life - and everything to do with life - is because of Him.
Yet you're right - it is most certainly God who chose us.
Help me to fulfill that purpose. I pray for wisdom to pass the tests You allow in my life, to strengthen my faith and develop me for Your great purpose. If I am to lead; help me to lead. If I am to follow; help me to follow. If I am to make a difference in the world; help me to make that difference. If I am to influence one life; help me to influence that life.
Whatever my lot; help me to succeed and excel for Your glory. Thank you, God.
James - now you see why I love you so much.
"As we look at our relationship to our heavenly Father and our use of money, it is clear that we, like Jesus, are here to do the will of the Father in all areas of life. This means seeking to live a life that is totally yielded to His purposes -even in the financial area.

This is beautiful - very bottom line, down to earth essential truth.
God has nothing against us having lots of money - and as long as we keep His Glory as the overwhelming priority we will undoubtedly give the 1st 10% to Him regardless of our income; we will save a lot more by living a lifestyle that is honoring Him; and we will give generously because we all the more recognize our abundance stems from Him.
You're obviously my brother - thanks again.

I find it interesting that some folks misquote the Bible and say that "money is the root of all evil." But I Timothy 6:10 actually says that "...the LOVE of money is the root of all evil...."
Make a big difference in the meaning, huh!

Lady, I am way too wired like a man - to not be taken in by you (or the presense of a lady).
So although I sincerely appreciate your support. You're probably exposing a bigger weakness.
Anyway, thank you. And sticking strickly with the Word of God IT makes a very big difference.

James,
Thank you for sharing this message wih us. I always do state that we are here for a purpose and to fulfill His Will. I agree that we do not have to live in misery to obey the Scriptures' teachings. If we do help our church or the needy with at least 10% of all we earn, we will surely be blessed with a lot more. The fact that we make money is not unholy, to me it is one more way in which we can prove how much help we can give to His children, the needy and less fortunate, and what we give will be given back to us in blessings of all sorts.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
Note:
I have been debating all morning whether or not to bail to safety. Had we had unlimited IFT's I would be out today.
However, with limits, I am hesitating, because I wanted to keep a move available in case of emergency, and to set myself up for being able to do an in-and-out next month.
As such, I am going to hang on today. Against my gut- because gut is telling me we just hit the 200 day level, and bounced off it, and are about to get a swing down.
But I won't move so that I can prepare myself better for a swing move next month.
that's all I have to say today.
It's too bad we only get two moves, not three or four.
I have to stand pat where I am with this philosophy- so I am in 35/35/30 C/S/I and holding on.

I couldn't agree with you more James. But after reading an article from StockTiming.com I made the move to G today. The article is in my account. I hope the market has a small rally today so that everyone that made the jump has a profitable day. And for those that didn't may you have a very profitable day. Good Luck to all.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
Money is simply rotating today from large cap to small cap and that is positive - no reason to cut and run. The more folks on that lily pad the happier Ferdinand becomes. My EXM is down a whopping $0.02 that indicates to me there is internal strength in the DJTA.

Re: James48843 Account Talk
Birch- you may be right.
Seems that even today's hit was still well within trading channels.
We may get a little lower tomorrow, but then I think we may bounce right back.
This is stronger than I was expecting. Even the dips are not that bad.
We'll have to wait and see what happens next.
note: I am also watching the weekly sentiment survey for indications of future direction. The tsptak sentiment survey has been pretty dog-gone good lately.
Good luck!
