Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
Chris, welcome! Glad to see you on the board, we need folks to post and ask questions to spur conversation and exchanges of ideas. A good many of the folks here stepped aside in February and missed the fall, I'm not one of them. At any rate, I rode it down, caught the rise and went to G yesterday, looking to get back in when we test the lows. Lots of smart folks who understand chart fundamentals (Bquat, DBA to name a couple), Coolhand has great analysis, as do many others. Some can speak to Elliot Waves and Fibonacci retracements, all good info, all to make informed decisions. Still, no one truly knows what the market will do, so there's still and element of a crap shoot in the whole thing.
Hey gang! Say hello to Chris...
Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
Chris,
Welcome aboard. A lot of good information in these Threads.
First off no one here will tell you what to do. That is your choice and decision on what you are comfortable with. Folks around here have lots of data, ideas, opinions and suggestions, but the choice is your's alone. As far as how/when to get back in that is anyone's guess. With only 2 IFT's for any given month it can be the roll of the dice. Again with only 2 IFT's "buy and hold" isn't a bad thing. It just depends on how long you want to stay put in one or more funds. If you're one that doesn't like to sit in a fund for two long the hardest thing to do is time the market. Good luck and ask lots of questions.
Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
Chris,
Welcome aboard and ditto on what Whipsaw and Nasa posted.
Just remember the two most important things: " Buy low, sell high" and "Friends don't let friends buy and hold".
Other than that, enjoy!!!
Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
Welcome, Chris! I am a buy-n-hold success story. I bought in low during the Financial Crisis, averaging a 28% annual return for over 10 years. I came out of hibernation on 23 Dec 2019. We look forward to your contributions on this forum. There are a lot of great people on here. I think you'll enjoy yourself. :beerchug:

Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
Thanks! The "test the lows" is a phrase I have seen on a number of posts which I am researching to see what that means. I am understanding that there is a belief/theory that once the market hits a low it will bounce back up and then revisit the low before truly turning up for an extended period?
Re: Flalaw97's Account Talk
That's right. It's common to retest a low, but not all tests "pass" and in that case we'd get another new low, and start the process over.
But a successful test of the lows usually is considered an "all's clear" double bottom.

Hi Chris, Welcome to the Forum! Sounds like you want to get away from a 100% buy and hold strategy. If so, I think you’ve come to the right place! Lots of folks here willing to share information.
Here are a couple sites I always seem to go back to for good information on charting, technical indicators, support and resistance and trading strategies. Hope you enjoy and Best Wishes to you on your investments!
