Retirement Talk - Why Own a Life Insurance Policy?

My personal story regarding life insurance policies:

My parents both had life insurance policies. When Mom died, the life insurance paid for everything except $200 - $300 for obituary in the newspaper. Even paid for plot for Dad in advance of his death. When Dad died, the life insurance again paid for everything except for the notices in the newspaper. I put obituaries in the newspaper from where he was from and the newspaper in the town where he died.

My parents were given so good financial advice after they struggles with money issues. My brother and I both received money from their Trust. I think my brother expected it, but I was surprised at how well they had done with their investments. I am trying to honor their memory by being a good steward of what I have been blessed with.
