Can you recommend a good appraiser for vintage Rolex watches? I have a 1972 14K Gold Rolex Oyster Date (1501) that I'm thinking of moving. I never wear it. Like you, I just have too many watches. The case is in exceptional condition. The Oyster band is the hollow type with rivited edges. A little worn in places, but still wearable. One of the last years they made those I believe before they moved to solid links.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Comparing it to some similar on ebay, this looks like a very good price.

Interwatches.com has a "History of Rolex Watches" that gives some values. If not look on ebay or google your model and you will probably find one like it. Is it the solid gold Presidential? If so it could be 7-10K. A Rolex dealer will charge you $250 for a written appraisal.
Re: Vintage 1974 Rolex Datejust with 18K White Gold Bezel
It is about $500-$700 less than the internet dealers sell them for.

Try to sell it yourself. A pawn shop or internet dealer will offer you 50% of the value, then turn around and list it for sale at twice what they paid you for it.

Yes by all means sell the Rolex...Because some people will begrudge you for having something that expensive, beautiful and extravagant as a Rolex and out of their buying range of a Timex and so therefore, you should live down to their standards and not ever enjoy any fruits of your labors beyond a meager miserable life as they have chosen for themselves...they would even go as far as call you names like; Arrogant, egotistical, show-off, eccentric, reckless with your own money, etc....
Second thought, I would keep it and save it for a family treasure.

You need to work on your sales pitch, Buster. :)

I'm sorry...but I was a victim once on the subject of a Nice expensive watch and was chastised for having it...just wanted to let this person know how some ignorant people perceive owners of such nice things..
