Question about yesterday's I Fund return
The TSP Talk home page shows that the I fund returned -0.24% yesterday. I checked the share prices (used link on home page) and the price declined from 17.4322 to 17.3907 ... which is a -0.24% return. That checks.
When I look at the W4500, however, it went from a Monday close of 47.36 to a Tuesday close of 47.67 ... a gain of 0.65%.
Why the descrepency? I went to bed thinking I made some money, but woke up to discover that I didn't make as much as I thought!

You got pimped. Just like the rest of us common investing ho's. It happens a lot on the street. Who's your daddy? TSP, or blackrock?
No doubt there are far more technical explanations. But that one works for me.
Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
I did have a disturbing dream last night ...

Hey, that rhymes with whodey.
This could get interesting. Enjoy the ride. Wheee, wheeeeee.
Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
Fair Value must be taken into account when investing in the "I" Fund.
Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
I still don't understand.
I can see how actual returns might not track exactly with the indices, but a difference of 0.89% in the daily return is significant.
How should one make an investment decision if you can't use the index?
Confused.
Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
Don't worry - it always comes back. Sometimes the I fund fair value play is just a slight aggravation.

Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
Thank you. That helps.
I'm still surprised at the magnitude of the difference, however, but I'll see what's posted for today. It also makes it difficult to time an entry/exit point.
Thanks again.

Maybe I missed something since it hasn't been mentioned, but the W4500 is the S-fund not the I-fund. The EFA is the I-fund, and that's the one where fair value is an issue.
Re: Question about yesterday's I Fund return
My bad ... I meant the EFA.
Earlier, I was also looking at the W4500 against the DWCPF. Obviously, my brain can only handle a limited number of acronyms.
