Chrysler fires 13, lays off 2 in taped lunch escapade

Chrysler Group LLC has fired 13 workers and temporarily sidelined two more caught on tape drinking and using drugs in a park during their lunch break, before returning to build Jeep Grand Cherokees at the Jefferson North plant.
The disciplinary actions were announced Monday following an investigation that began last week after Chrysler saw video of the actions from WJBK-TV, Channel 2. WJBK was tipped off by concerned co-workers.
"It has been determined that 13 employees engaged in behavior that violated the company's Standards of Conduct and these 13 employees were discharged today (Monday). Two remaining employees will receive a one-month disciplinary layoff without pay," Chrysler said in a statement.
The automaker said the swift justice makes it "clear that Chrysler Group will not tolerate such behavior and will continue to evaluate its protocols to ensure that something like this does not happen again."
Both the automaker and the United Auto Workers have said the workers identified do not reflect the majority of the work force at the Jeep plant.
