Fifteen of the workers have been suspended pending investigation.
"The United Auto Workers strongly opposes the use of controlled substances or alcohol use on the job," the United Auto Workers the union said in part of its statement Thursday. "This type of behavior jeopardizes the health and safety of all employees. We also recognize that, unfortunately, these behaviors exist in our society."

I would also point out that the BMW factory in Germany, and the Mercedes-Benz factory, both provide beer vending machines on the auto factory floor. It's part of the Union contract there.

Meanwhile...back at the ranch...
Are illicit drugs in the vending machine?
Are beer vending machines in the contract here? Who cares what they are doing in another country.
Nice spin as usual.

If your allegation was that those who drink beer cannot make a car, I was simply pointing out that Mercedes and BMW both do it, and the cars so produced seem to have a fairly good reputation.
That said- and as noted above, the Chrysler employees have been suspended, and an investigation is being conducted. The Union's role is simply to ensure that the proper procedure is carried out in the employee's disciplinary action. I.E. that Management follows the rules if they intend to fire all 15 of them.

Looks like California will have a large turnout in November.
If any ballot measure will get California voters to the polls, it wll be that one.

The old 2 martini lunch turned into beer in a bag. Remember the days when the boss had a bottle in his desk for guests? Ahh, those were the days. OK, I never actually saw that but watching those old black and white movies made it seem glamorous.
It's funny how politically incorrect drinking has become, and how much some are trying to regulate what we eat (salt, trans fats, fast food, sugary sodas, etc.) yet many of the same folks are pushing for the legalization of marijuana. But that's probably a topic for the Beltway Talk forums.

In Law and Order Jack McCoy gets a bottle out of his desk occassionally. He's a DA:D

I don't think they should be HIGH at work around all of that moving machinery, but crap they had nothing to do with the Bailout! So they should be disciplined, it happens every day in America, if not in a parking lot in a fancy restaurant. GET OUT!
Re: Chrysler Autoworkers Caught on Camera Drinking Beer, Smoking Pot During Break
I was going to turn the wrench,
But I got high
I thought it'd be a cinch,
But I got high
Now there's a f@ck!nG recall,
And I know why,
(why man?)
Cause I got high
Cause I got high
Cause I got high

When my daughter was a teenager I told her I would prefer she smoke some pot and stay away from cigaretts. So that worked out just fine. Her current employer drug tested her hair which can go back years and she was clean. She does like her wine though.

Chrysler has announced that all 15 of the employees who were apparently caught drinking and smoking pot during their lunch break by a Fox 2 News Detroit crew have been suspended indefinitely without pay. The workers from the company's Jefferson North Assembly Plant were spotted drinking heavily during their lunch breaks over a ten-day period. Chrysler says that all of the individuals had been identified and relieved of their duty within 36 hours of the company learning of the problem.
The company also says that while the video seems pretty cut-and-dry, it must adhere to its protocol when it comes to removing those workers permanently. Chrysler also stressed that each of its vehicles goes through an extensive quality control system and that it doesn't condone the behavior documented in the news report in any way. Chrysler's Jefferson North plant employs a total 2,500 workers.
