Default IRAN? Or "WAG THE DOG"?

So, Sec. of State Mike Pompeo just held a press conference and says IRAN is who attacked those two tankers in the Straights of Hormuz.

Pompeo: " “It is the assessment of the United States government that the Islamic Republic of Iran was responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today,” Pompeo said at a news conference at the State Department. “This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.”

The attack came as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was concluding meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Iran would like Japan to ignore U.S. sanctions and resume buying its oil, while Abe tried to pave the way for talks between the U.S. and Iran.

    What do you think?

Is it the start of something big? Are the markets going to react badly? Are the markets going to rev up on the thought of another 5 Trillion dollar war on the horizon?

Or will the markets take it all in stride and have minimal disruption?

It looks, so far, like the markets don't really seem to be reacting to Pompeo's news conference.

Two ships, both loaded with petro-chemicals (NOT crude), and on their way out of the Gulf, hit with some kind of weapons.

Pompeo is taking this where the intelligence leads. And who else would it be at this point in time besides Iran?
They’ve threatened retaliation for the crippling sanctions the U.S. has imposed. I saw video this morning of an Iranian attack boat attempting remove a unexplored mine from one of the ships that were attacked, so it’s pretty clear Iran is right in the middle of the events (and attacks) of late.
As for the market, who knows. Anything can cause a knee jerk reaction. But, I would think that the markets would respond more positively to further sanctions, or a measured military response if the attacks continue vs. Iran, the world’s biggest state sponsor of terrorism, becoming a nuclear power. Any responses, economically or militarily, should be a joint operation that includes the U.S., our allies, and any countries who oppose Iran’s terroristic intentions.
This is a WORLD problem, not simply an America problem.

Not necessarily. He didn't say the information came from the intelligence community. If you recall, the intelligence community (and our allies) indicated that Iran was adhering to the nuclear deal. The White House disregarded that intelligence and imposed sanctions anyway. Point: The WH makes whatever decisions it wants, regardless of the intelligence. BTW ... Saudi Arabia ... .

But yes, I believe Iran or Iran sympathizers or simply instigators are responsible. See my previous post regarding no nation will let another nation destroy their economy without a fight ... especially if it is based upon false pretenses. BTW ... Iraq and the "weapons of mass destruction" ...

    So, let Iran continue to adhere to the nuclear deal, as our intelligence community indicated they are doing, or;

Say they are not adhering and start a serious, major conflict were many lives are subject to be lost because ... Saudi Arabia wants it, imo. Did I mention Iraq and the "WMD"?

Could be NK, China, Russia, Cuba, IS, or the Taliban, trying to weaken us by making us focus on an intervention in Iran, instead of keeping them in check.

Could also be one of our regional allies trying to get us to pull the trigger to remove the iranian thorn in their side.

Could be Iran trying to be sly.

Who knows, but a military response will not be pretty...

Even if it is Iran, why is it OUR problem?

    Norway has F-16s and F-35'A.

    Japan has F-16's and F-35'As.

Why would we get in the middle of that?

What happened to minding our own business?
