Default TriCare Retiree Dental Program (TRDP)

AKA Delta Dental of California. This program and the insurance is going away at the end of December. As a Military retiree you are offered a chance to enroll in one of the FedVip programs. Most of their insurances are better deals than Delta ever was. So great. Unless you are a Fed civilian and enrolled in a FedVip dental program through your current employer. You can’t have a dual enrollment in a FedVip program.

This is no big deal money wise as Delta often cost more than it paid. It is the idea that some Military retirees just got screwed out of some more of that “free health care for life”.

I have had tricare retiree dental (Delta) for ten years. I’m one of the lucky ones that has to now sign up for FedVip- which I did.

However, there wasn’t any way in FedVip to record that I am tricare coming over- so I know I’m going to have problems with the Delta (new FedVip) not recognizing that I was Delta (tricare) previously, and therefore I am expecting to have to call and argue about first year coverage in January. I tried explaining to the agent at FedVip that as a previously covered, I shouldn’t have to wait the first year lower dental payouts.

Delta Dental & Fedvip @James 48443: I agree with you, but you won’t get anywhere arguing with the associates it managers. Your issue is only that more than likely wasn’t addressed and therefore not mentioned in the plan document. You will have to call or write your US senator who represents your district & file your complaint asking him/her to resolve the unfair matter for previous Delta Dental members.
I experienced an issue with Tricare and their portability clause, and got nowhere trying to resolve through managers. They would tell me they understood and the matter was taken care of, apparently just to get me off the phone. The next month, I’d receive another invoice, until they threatened to turn it over to collections. I wrote my Senate and Congress. The Senate aide contacted me, asked more questions and it was resolved within 2 weeks. I received a letter from his office confirming the resolve and if I were to receive another invoice, call them back. The problem just disappeared. So, I encourage you to fight for your right for them to recognize portability.
