Default Roth TSP - MyPay/DFAS only accepts the FIRST change you make for the month

Howdy, I'm back to confirm that for a given month, the first election I make for Roth will be accepted, and all others will be ignored. As an example. During the first week of January, I entered $X for Roth TSP via MyPay. Then, the second week of January, I changed my mind and entered $Y instead. The system seemed to happily accept $Y as the amount, and every time I logged into MyPay after that, it would display a pending transaction for $Y (no mention of $X anywhere) for Roth TSP. Just for kicks, I went back to the election page and entered $Y a couple more times. After Feb 1 rolled around, it showed $X, not $Y! I never received an error or any rejection of the $Y allocation. This is easy enough to manage now that I know the limitation in the system and there's still ten months left to fiddle with. It just means I have to think a little harder before I press "Save". I've had pretty horrible experiences with the "Ask Mypay" method of feedback - I would typically get responses that ignored my issue -- eg "TSP account allocations become effective beginning on the first of the month, you will see you allocation changed then" <--- I already know this, but they completely ignored my point that it is being changed to $X, not $Y. Does anyone have suggestions for a more effective means to communicate? I don't really feel a need to "complain" so much as just a desire to let the programmers know there's a problem. I'm sure not all TSPers read this forum and could be thoroughly confused by what's happening. The immediate fix would be to post a warning that you can only make one allocation amount change per month (the first try). A better fix, of course, would be to have the system work correctly. Thanks (Not sure why carriage return isn't working in this post, so everything's run together)

Don't quite understand your situation....but you obviously put a lot of time into this. Are you talking about your TSP contribution amount? I didn't think you could do that in MyPay....but had to use EBIS (that is what I use anyway). For EBIS, if you get your request in before the start of the pay period, it should be effective on your first payday after that pay period. For me, my agency pays biweekly. Maybe yours is monthly.

I don't change mine that frequently....usually at the start of the year when the allowable yearly amount changes. But if I am not mistaken, EBIS again, should take your latest contribution request prior to a given pay period. Then, it will stay the same no matter what you change...until the next pay period.

In any case, I think if you call and talk to an actual person, they should be able to go over your request history and come up with a good explanation. I never heard of a 1 per month rule. And it shouldn't matter if it's Roth or Traditional. Both are handled the same as far as I know.

Hope this helps in some small way. Good Luck.....and let us know how it works out!

Yes, this is for Roth TSP contribution amount. For active duty military (or at least Army), our options to change TSP contributions are via MyPay or on a paper form TSP-U-1. We do not have EBIS. We get paid twice monthly, but TSP contributions can only be updated once per month.

Traditional TSP contributions still work fine - eg if I enter 10% base pay contribution, anytime during a calendar month, it will become effective the next month. If I change my mind and want to contribiute 11%, as long as I enter it prior to the end of the calendar month, the new amount (11%) becomes effective during the next calendar month.

Roth TSP is new, and the system is still not bug-free. If I enter $500 per month on January 3rd at 9:00 am and then realize my finger slipped after I hit enter, then enter $600 per month on January 3rd at 9:01 am, the system will display a pending transaction for a change to $600 for the entire month of January, but on February 1st, the Roth TSP deduction will be $500 per month.

I'm just posting this for public information for those whom this might affect.
