Been meaning to find and post this, passed on via a co-worker.
Looked for it after helping my Mom look over Medicare plans.
This is a an under the radar program that has had more benefits available than they have recipients. Find the direct link inside the site below-

Here is the site that started the awareness campaign-
    http://veteranaid.org/index.php

INTRODUCTION TO THE VETERANS' AID AND ATTENDANCE IMPROVED PENSION

The Veterans Administration offers Aid and Attendance as part of an "Improved Pension" Benefit that is largely unknown. This Improved Pension allows for Veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in eating, bathing, dressing, undressing, medication dosing, or taking care of the needs of nature to receive additional monetary benefits. It also includes individuals who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. Assisted care in an Assisted Living facility also qualifies.

This most important benefit is overlooked by many families with Veterans or surviving spouses who need additional monies to help care for ailing parents or loved ones. This is a "Pension Benefit" and IS NOT dependent upon service-related injuries for compensation. Aid and Attendance can help pay for care in the home, Nursing Home or Assisted Living facility. A Veteran is eligible for up to $1,632 per month, while a surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,055 per month. A couple is eligible for up to $1,949 per month*.

The Aid and Attendance Benefit is considered to be the third tier of the VA's Improved Pension. The other two tiers are known as "Basic" and "Housebound". Each tier has its own level of benefits and qualifications. While the objective of this site is to disseminate information on the Aid and Attendance level of the Pension, often referred to as A&A, we encourage you to view the other two levels in the event you or your loved one does not qualify for A&A. Click Here for more information about the Basic and Housebound tiers. The Improved Pension is not a new benefit, and has in fact been an entitlement for 58 years sitting idle while millions have and still are missing out on.

Please browse this site using the menu on the left to learn more about the Aid & Attendance Pension, FAQ's, Eligibility Requirements, How to Apply, What to Expect, and Resources to help you with filing for this critical benefit. Our forum offers a wealth of information and insights to the process of filing for Aid and Attendance. Be sure to take advantage of this resource.

Also, please take a moment to visit the Sponsors of this site who have made it possible to disseminate this information to our Veterans and their families.

It is a privilege and an honor to recognize the sacrifice of service and to hopefully make a difference for your loved one.

What are Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits? How Do I Apply?

    * Aid and Attendance is a benefit paid in addition to monthly pension when:
o The claimant requires the aid of another person in order to perform personal functions required in everyday living, such as bathing, feeding, dressing, attending to the wants of nature, adjusting prosthetic devices, or protecting himself/herself from the hazards of his/her daily environment, OR,
o The claimant is bedridden, in that his/her disability or disabilities requires that he/she remain in bed apart from any prescribed course of convalescence or treatment, OR,
o The claimant is a patient in a nursing home due to mental or physical incapacity, OR,
o The claimant is blind or so nearly blind as to have corrected visual acuity of 5/200 or less, in both eyes, or concentric contraction of the visual field to 5 degrees or less.
    * Housebound is paid to a claimant when:
o The claimant is substantially confined to his/her immediate premises because of permanent disability.

The survivor may not receive Aid and Attendance benefits and Housebound benefits at the same time.

How to Apply for Aid and Attendance and Housebound:

    * You may apply for Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits by writing to the VA regional office having jurisdiction of the claim. That would be the office where you filed a claim for pension benefits. If the regional office of jurisdiction is not known, you may file the request with any VA regional office.
    * You should include copies of any evidence, preferably a report from an attending physician validating the need for Aid and Attendance or Housebound type care.
    * The report should be in sufficient detail to determine whether there is disease or injury producing physical or mental impairment, loss of coordination, or conditions affecting the ability to dress and undress, to feed oneself, to attend to sanitary needs, and to keep oneself ordinarily clean and presentable.
    * In addition, it is necessary to determine whether the claimant is confined to the home or immediate premises.
    * Whether the claim is for Aid and Attendance or Housebound, the report should indicate how well the individual gets around, where the individual goes, and what he or she is able to do during a typical day.

What Is in Fast Food? A Newly Discovered Reason to Avoid Fast Food
A new study shows that toxicperfluoroalkyls, which are used in surface protection treatments and coatings to keep grease from leaking through fast food wrappers, are being ingested by people through their food and showing up as contaminants in blood.

Perfluoroalkyls are a hazardous class of stable, synthetic chemicals that repel oil, grease and water.

Crap I use cheap-o non-stick pots & pans on the grill (uncontrolled temperature source). Probably Tfal or Cefalon or sumthin...dont remember. My memory is shot from ingesting all these chemicals. For in-home I use full-stick pots & pans .
I guess I should be using those disposable aluminum pans for grilling my veggies.

Glad to. Every bit helps, especially for those on fixed incomes and no COLA for 2 years.
I'd be interested to know how it worked out.

Wow, sad news...died of liver failure. Seventeen years ago I pulled out my Baker Street LP and played that song to my then girlfriend, then told her the words were just how I felt about her.... then got down on a knee and asked her to marry me, so that song has a lot of meaning for us.

    Thanks Gerry.
