I would not be surprised to see a Seven Sentinels buy signal after today. After all what's it been...eight trading days since that last sell? An eternity in this market.
BUY SIGNAL , I'LL TAKE IT !
Cool, back before the Ticker went bad, I recall having enough time to see
everyones "VIEW" numbers and try to compete with Steady as we were
both close numerically with 6 digets.
I seem to remember back then, a very intelligent rookie with a Matrix avitar just coming
onto the scene here at TSPTalk.com. Wow, in such a short time you've reached over 266k
in views ! This is a testament to the confidence that our membership has in your ability to
to keep it real. I want to congratulate you for accomplishing such a very difficult task !
Now if he could just fine tune his prescience even a little.
Predicting the future - the best investment returns are made by anticipating major economic change before it happens.
For what it's worth, I have a several ROTH IRAs, all of which are buy and hold. They receive regular contributions and are fully invested in stocks and bonds. Those accounts are always exposed to the market. I also have an account at Scottrade that I use to buy beaten down issues (I own Citi for instance), and try to trade infrequently with that. I also have (or will have) 3 pensions when I reach retirement age. So TSP is only a fraction of my total portfolio, but it's one that I keep risk the lowest in. I've done an analysis on my anticipated needs and found that I don't need a million dollars in that account to feel financially secure. Fact is, it would still be a significant chunk of change if I kept it in the "lowly" G fund till I retire (a high percentage of contributions helps). That's about 14 years from now unless I hit the lottery.
But my point is that each of us has to look at our total portfolio and decide what are needs or desires are going to be and how much risk we're willing to accept to try an achieve a given goal. When I make a trading decision in my TSP account I'm only affecting a relatively small percentage of my total portfolio. I'm not doing so hot now, but when the market tanked a few years ago, I didn't lose nearly as much as the market did. As a result I'd say I'm more or less breaking even in the past 3-4 years.

Same here coolhand, most of my total portfolio is invested in equities. The TSP account will be part of my wife's retirement and I try to keep a conservative to moderate risk with that account.
With 10 to 11 mutual funds and a stock I am invested in more aggressive equities. In the next couple of day will buy an EFT.
