Amen to that. I retired about 18 months ago and went back to school to learn what really interests me. Physics. Time travel, space time continuum etc. I have been loving it. Working on BS and perhaps grad school later. It's so much more fun this time.
My wife loves it too. Me playing Mr. Mom.

I wish I could retire. I will be working until I'm 115 years old.
Is today Saturday again?

It's not so much about retirement, it's more about living a stress free life by doing what you enjoy. The Military life and working on computers have been good to me but I have no passion for it, I'm just going through the motions. It sucks when you don't like your job, it adds stress to your life you don't need.
As for actual retirement, I could retire in 25 years, but it's dependent on sound investment decisions and lifestyle reductions. I'm re-programing my family every day, trying to undo all the damage caused by the consumeristic society we live in.

Let me know how that works out for you.
My wife is an as seen on tv impulse buyer.
A brownie pan and she hasn't made brownies in the year and a half since she got it.
A microwave pasta steamer, out of the package, never used.
A nonstick meatloaf pan never used.
A stack and store glass bowl set with rubber tops that you can use as heat pads, on the counter starting the second week now not oped.
Maybe I'll suggest them as Christmas gifts.

Your wife sounds frustrated - she may need a back massager or something that vibrates.
Excellent!! Been retired now for 3 1/2 years and loving it!! The "freedom" is wonderful! Did our best to avoid most of the "consumeristic society" in order to build up for retirement. It paid off wonderfully. I don't care to ever have a job again. My "job" is a part time job, at home, with no real hassles.....it's "working" my TSP account to maintain at least what I retired with while withdrawing a very "comfortable living" amount. I LOVE my current "job". Heh Heh
Good luck to you, JTH! May you live long and healthy and enjoy your retirement even more than me....which would be pretty darn much!!
