Pelosi appears to be tired of carrying the water on this bill, what I heard in her outburst was a message to her side: "We have the votes we promised, the rest of you can vote as you wish, it's up to the Reps to get the votes they promised to bail Bush out." Maybe I've been in the Kabuki of negotiations too long, but that was what *I* heard.

I haven't seen this sentiment shift yet. If anything, the "no" movement seems to have been emboldened since the defeat in the House. I sent my Senator (Shelby) an email urging him to vote no. We may go through some pain in the "de-leveraging" process, but I don't believe the world financial system will shut down. Credit is being given every day, mortgages are being closed, car loans are being made, etc. If you want to borrow money, there are plenty out there willing to lend if you 1) have a good credit record and history of making timely payments, 2) have a reasonable down payment, and 3) can prove your income or positive cash flow. In short, if you are judged a good credit risk, you can get credit - if you do not have the the three necessary requirements I just listed, you should not be surprised if a bank refuses to lend you money.

True, but the message to the American voters still remains this is a "Bailout", and there has to be an alternative answer to this crisis that doesn't throw our money in the wrong direction, and your 401K if you have one has already tanked.

jmho When the 9-30-2008 quarterly statements start arriving in the mailboxes across America there will be a fresh wave of calls to Washington,DC. There's something about seeing it in print that really strikes home! You may be right. I believe there will be a lot of screaming for action out there. Especially among the great unwashed that don't pay much attention to their accounts!

The big market downturn put a nail in the coffin....the bill will pass now. It only needs a few votes to turn. Also, the bill will be amended more this time, and will be seen as a better compromise. I say 100% pass.

CP, I felt the same way and went 50C, 50S by COB today. If I'm wrong then I'll be stuck for awhile.

Senatemember 2: “Special requests from Houseville. They couldn’t get them on the Budgettrains. Doesn’t matter, they’re small. We just need to get this Emergency Train outtahere and over to Houseville and hope they don’t break this one.”

Senatemember 1: “Don’t we have to load on more coal to balance out the freight?”

Senatemember 2: “Nah, only on Budgettrains. We don't have time to put it on Emergency Trains.”

Senatemember 1 rolls his eyes. "Another Emergency Train, no coal. May I never see them again."

Funny! It will be interesting to see what your Blue Dogs think about this train. BTW, I'm a little Blue Dog myself ... does that make me a Blue Puppy?

At the moment it seems like I'm in a tunnel with just a small hint of light way off in the distance....or I'm in a cave and rocks are falling but all I have is an umbrella...

Yet this will pass and when it does - finally pass - all of this will be forgotten as things get better.

Well that's it for me - heading home to the wife, daughter, Ella and my little political cream puff Sarah.

I expect the stock market to remain skittish. Hoping the libor eases a little indicating more lending - that may take some time but I think it will move before the market. Libor is in the driver's seat.
