    Default jarc02's Account Talk

29.31%. Since Trump was elected I reallocated my contribution 5%F, 20%S and 75%C. I just recently changed my contribution allocation to 90%C, 7%F and 3%G. I left the money in the funds. I only reallocated the percentages and started a small amount in G.
I have an IRA that did well but my main investment is the TSP.

    Question Average Annual Return

I have been in the TSP for 8 full years. In those 8 years my average annual return has been 10.92%. My contributions began the day I was hired in Federal service with an automatic 3% contribution. This automatically went into the G fund. I hope to maintain an 8% to 10% average annual return.

I Have one complaint and I am not sure if this is common across all government agencies. I was not aware that the contributions began automatically. My EOD was in 2011 and auto enrollment in the TSP became practice before I was hired. There was no information on my benefits when I went through the on boarding process. I had no idea I had a pension available (FERS). I thought it was only the TSP I would have to rely on in retirement. My agency needs to do a better job of explaining benefits - PERIOD!

I thought I had to enroll in the TSP and it took me several months to get access to the TSP.gov web site so I could allocate my contribution and the EPP web site to increase my contribution. Does anyone else have this same complaint? No one pointed me in the right direction where to get information.

    I agree 200 percent!
The Government (I'm on year 20 BTW) does a terrible job of informing employees about their benefits. Yet, they waste no amount of money making sure we spend countless wasted hours on " Trainings" that have nothing to do with our actual jobs!

We work for "The System" and it is definitely broken!

But there are great sites out there that will keep you informed! This one is wonderful. So is FedSmith and Fedweek. Check them out.
One thing Uncle Sugar (Uncle Sam) has taught me is....I am on my own!
But that's fine. I don't trust anything they tell me anyway. I'd much rather hear it third party.

It was worse when I hired on. We had to wait 6 months before we could contribute to TSP. I didn't know about FERS either. I don't know if it was up yet. All I knew was that CSRS was gone and we were now on Social Security. That was our pension, or so I thought.

The best help I ever got before coming here to TSPTalk was from someone in another agency (IRS). She went to a retirement conference for FERS. It was contracted out, not government run and I think that made a big difference. She let me look through her workbook and told me about the three legs of our retirement and showed me where they were being taken out of our paycheck. It made sense. Why does the government make it so hard.

Anyways, I would advise following the Retirement thread here on TSPTalk and in particular people's retirement stories/experience. It's learning from others who have gone on before you and letting you know what's coming before you get there.
    Allocations as of COB Dec 28 : 100% S. | Retirement Date:Dec 2025
    Past Returns:
    2020 31.85%,2019 27.97%,2018 -3.36%,2017 13.10%, 2016 -1.79%, 5Yr Avg 12.61%
