Cool Newbie - Hello Fellow Members

    Greetings All:

I just joined today and wanted to say hello. I have been investing in the F, L2050 and S Fund for quite some time. It appears that my account is performing ok, but could be better. After reading information on the site today, I learned that it is not very wise to invest in the L Funds, so I will be making an adjustment soon. If anyone would like to share some advice that I could use or stow away for future reference, please feel free to say something. It feels like I'm a part of a family of TSPers that are more knowledgeable than I am, and I like the fact that I can learn from the members, since we have no one else to turn to for advice within our agencies. I'm looking forward to the experience and perhaps chatting with some of you all along the way.

    Much success to all.

Welcome felinecrl! Thanks for joining us.

Yes, lots of info posted here over the years. There is a lot to consider when managing your account. A 60 year old probably will approach things differently than a 30 year old. Balance size, other income, pension, etc., all play a roll in what our TSP means to us so no one person will likely have the answer.

The search feature here on the forum, and the one on the top of the home page will help you narrow down what you are looking for.

    Good luck!
    Tom

Welcome aboard felinecrl. I'm an old 60 yr. old retired dude in MS so I hope you brought some rain with you and some cool weather. We need both down here real soon. Lots to learn from these folks. They have fun too. Good Luck !!!

Thank you Tiger25. Turns out we are somewhat in the same boat when it comes to the weather. I'm in Richmond, Texas and it is very dry here too. Sorry I didn't bring rain or good news, but hopefully the TSP will start performing better than it has for the past month. Hopefully we will get some rain soon too. I don't ask for much. LOL!

Thanks for the welcome and advice Frixxxx. I will definitely do what you suggested, as I want to become more familiar with the site and learn to navigate more efficiently. Have a great day!

Glad to have you join us felinecrl !!
Lots of material to sort thru here. Be sure to tell your co-workers about this site.

Actually, I don't know where you got that L Funds were not good. They are definitely better than just leaving everything in G (except for maybe the past 2 months!). Also good for DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) strategy. It IS true that putting in your own %'s gives you more control...but sometimes that can be a bad thing.

Once you get comfortable with the site, consider starting your own Account Talk thread, joining the Autotracker, and/or join a premium service (the last requires a small fee).

Good Luck to you! I am approaching retirement, but still have a goal of being a TSP millionaire first!!

Thanks for sharing the information DreamboatAnnie. I too like the commentaries posted daily, as it gives me some insight as to how the market works, but I'm still getting acclimated to the acronyms. LOL! The videos you mentioned in your post: can thy be archived on TSPTalk or should I Google it? At the moment, I know I need to change an allocation out of the L2050 fund, but as having read the commentaries yesterday and today, perhaps, I should consider running to the "G" hills entirely until things start looking up again. Whew! Decisions, decisions. Thanks again.

Thanks uscfanhawaii. I read about the information regarding the L funds one of the posts from the developer of the site. Lately, everything isn't performing at all but constantly going down the slippery slope to nowhere, so, I may be transferring all my eggs to the G fund. It's getting a bit uncomfortable for me. I have signed up for the items you mentioned but will begin a new thread for Account Talk. Not sure I'm ready for premium service, until my understanding of everything has improved. I am overwhelmed by all the information I must read already. LOL! I don't think I will become a millionaire before I leave, but would just like to make my money work as hard as I possibly can. Have a great weekend!
