i will work on getting diameters of holes and final dimensions. i can see it in my head, i'll try to put it on paper.

    you're hired.
Burro, while on vacation last week I made a crude drawing of what I thought you wanted the piece to look like. I have a few questions about what will suit your needs. I'll scan the drawing tonight when I get home and post it here to see if it's close. Till then adiós amigo!

Burro, below is the drawing I promised earlier. (NOTE: THIS DRAWING IS NOT TO SCALE) but it's close.

I've also included a handwritten description of basically the 3 parts. I've labeled them:
A - WHICH IS THE BOTTOM SHELF
1 question regarding the tray area. How deep do you need it to be. We've got approx 1" thickness in the board so take that into consideration.

B - WHICH IS THE TOP SHELF
    2 questions here:
    1) What is the desired # of holes do you want drilled in this top shelf. You'll see I noted 12
    2) What does the diameter of the holes need to be

C - WHICH ARE THE 3 SPACERS / SUPPORTS FOR TOP SHELF
As noted on my handwritten description, what height do you need these to be? I guess another way of asking is what is the overall height of the completed project you'd like? If you know that, I can determine the height of these supports.

In your earlier post you stated you'd like it to be 10". You'll note I have shown the drawing at a total length of 12". That way, you'll have 1" at each end of the supports.

Let me know your thoughts and/or changes you'd prefer to this drawing.

    Thanks,
    Kave

    Correct me if I'm wrong:

In the top area you want 12 holes @ 3/4" diameter?
I cannot tell how deep you want these though.

In the bottom area you want 3 holes @ what diameter & depth?
and you want 2 holes @ what diameter & depth?

The tray area you want maybe 2" wide & 1/2" deep

Finally, a clear coat finish (as you suggested) would really make this piece stand out!!

    you pretty much got it.

top: 12 holes @ 11/16" or 3/4" diameter. the bottoms of these holes need to be flat so maybe clear through the top board? or at least 3/4" deep.
    bottom: 3 holes @ 1-1/2" & 2 holes @ 1-1/4" diameter. bottoms also flat, 3/8" or 1/2" deep. tray 1" or 1-1/2" wide & 1/4" or 3/8" deep.

    thanks.

what about compensation? what are you thinking on that?

Honestly, I have no idea. The biggest issue for me will be the 1-1/2 & 1-1/4 diameter holes on the bottom. The top is a breeze. Really, any woodworker any where can build it for you. My kicker is the reclaimed barn wood character aspect to it. I tell you what, let me build & finish it for you. I'll post pictures of it here. Then you can decide what it's worth to you. I'm positive we can workout agreeable terms.

the ecig stand made from reclaimed distressed tobacco barn wood is quite a unique kicker.

if the flat bottom on the 1-1/2" & 1-1/4" holes is an issue or not doable with a spade bit then what about a 3-step design with the 2nd middle step being the larger holes and also drilled clean through then set on top of base board that will have the tray at front edge?

also, random thought, but do you make boxes too? that arrangement would make a great lid for a box like a cigar box that could hold all liquids, extra tanks, atomizers, cords, spare batteries, etc. all in one place.

like an altar to nicotine which is fitting because ecigs are my new religion they are going to save my life vs. that burning tobacco crap.
