I respect your pain and have heard tales of the Balitmore family's love of thier COLTS.

You mentioned a few of the greatest and I would add Raymond Berry along with Johnny Unitas anytime along with Gino Marchetti for some defense.

Great old teams like the Cleveland Browns with Jim Brown against the NY Giants with Sam Huff and Rosie Brown, Allie Sherman, and Y.A.Tittle and all those great Packers and Cowboys.

SO, living near Washington I liked the Redskins in the George Allen Days but I don't think they ever won a Super Bowl in a year where there wasn't a strike.

THEN, I was too busy and disinterested to watch in my last years of work.

HOWEVER, in the last few years I have been re-charged in my interest in College football.

I grew up in Alabama, in the Bear Bryant years, and then Florida and I remember when the Sunday News paper had the College Football Scores at the top of the page.

AND I now watch my football every Saturday and watch the same great old teams play to a great year end championship!

    Best wishes!

Hey! The recycle worked and posted the submission even thought the SECURI Firewall came up.

    pmaloney,

Well for me, and the greatest Colt ever was Hall of Famer Artie Donovan. Great player and a fantastic sense of humor. After the Colts left town, I adopted the Redskins for a time. That was during the Joe Gibbs years. They won a super bowl with Doug Williams at quarterback. A truly heartwarming story.

As for college football, I follow both Alabama and Virginia Tech. Alabama because that is Ozzie Newsome's alma mater and Virginia Tech because I have roots in that area of the country.

I guess when it is all said and done being a fan of a professional sports team and having them move to another city is something we never get over. I was talking the other day with a guy who was a Brooklyn Dodger fan and I could still sense the hurt he felt as he spoke.

I guess that's where college football fans are lucky. Their teams never move.

Take care and thanks for the memories.

Yes, I would agree it is beautiful. I have a cousin that lives in Roanoke and other cousins further south in Bristol, Abingdon and Damascus. It is always a treat when I head down for a visit. Absolutely love riding the Harley on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Last summer my wife and I purchased a 16 foot Scamp camper as a retirement gift. I have already booked a week in Niagara Falls and a week in Portland Maine for this summer. All this talk of home is making me think that a week at Hungry Mother State Park may fit in nicely between the other two trips. I hear they have a very nice RV park with full hook ups there....

Heading out to Niagara Falls in the morning, for a week of camping with my wife and grandchildren ( 2 girls, ages 3 and 7). Loving this retirement stuff...

Back from Niagara Falls and ready for a little R&R. Grandchildren can really take it out of you. Had a blast though!!!

Next up is a motorcycle trip with my biker buddies to " Grand Canyon of the Northeast" in PA, later this month.

On the investment front, I am currently invested 50% G Fund, 50% L2020. I did pretty well in June, making up most of that devastating loss I had in May. Waiting to see what happens with China talks before making my next move. Being patient and happy with my current allocation.

Good luck with your investments* everyone!!!

Sounds like a great time with the Grankids. How is the new camper?
I never heard of the Grand Canyon of the Northeast but I think I'll check that out someday.
One of my favorite old motorcycle rides was the old Route 40 up the mountain past Cumberland and through the mountains on the way to the
Youghiogheny River in Ohioplyle, PA. on my BMW R60.
Great rides on old country mountain roads. Joined a poker run of at least 60 bikes on the top of that mountain past Cumbefrland, MD.
Have fun and enjoy the ride!

I hope you enjoyed Niagara Falls. In the interest of grandkids and humor, did you notice any collateral damage in the area? My son, DIL and four grands visited there last week.

More yukyuk of no particular interest, last time I visited the Canadian side of Niagara Falls we had a pickup full of stuff we had collected from various relatives and places. I never gave it a thought when we went in to Canada. When we returned the immigration official asked if we had anything to declare. We said no and he let us pass after a hard look at all the stuff. This was in the 90's so times were different I suppose.

Okay, so I got the name a wee bit wrong. Here is a link that describes the area and includes a link to directions.

Hope you make it up there someday. It is well worth the trip.

As for the camper, it did quite well with one exception. One night we had a pretty bad thunderstorm. Lots of rain and wind. I like a dummy did not check the weather and left the awning up. Bad move... The good news is that it will only cost me $115. to replace the center support pole. Been lectured twice now on putting the awning away before retiring for the night. Lesson learned.
