Okay..can't resist! RangerRay... they are very comfortable to hold! I do believe they were widely available although my mom only had one (peach one) ... I liked it so much I had to look into buying more and then saw all the different colors. Have met a collector and found the cubist glasses were made by only a few companies. My favorite (aqua) is made by Lancaster, not Indiana Whitehall or American Whitehall, though they look the same.

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day and all the Best! Here are a few sweets for you!
P.S. yes...used my favorite pretty old China (Prince Albert Serena..1940s) paired with an Anchor Hocking Waterford waffle pattern depression pink glass. Of course the yummies are even better...lol...

Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
Welp...made it through the Snow storm, and power and water outages. WhooooWeeee! On Monday, I lost power and cell phone data. Got power back on Wednesday, but no cable or internet and cell data, so dug up some old rabbit ears to get reception to about 10 stations including local weather news. Yesterday got data back and just got internet a few hours ago.
In any case, had two very cold nights (40 inside with fireplace going), but I know there were plenty of folks that were not so fortunate. We got down to single digits Monday and teens on Tuesday night. I am very thankful to God for what we had and came out okay. We had plenty of wood for fireplace, food, camp stove with propane and potable water. We are now dealing with low water pressure but its enough to boil water for daily use, and replenish our stored water supply and all is good! Local grocery chain, HEB, has been outstanding at getting food back on shelves (in Austin) and gasoline is just around the corner.
But as we warm up, there are many folks now dealing with water pipes bursting and no drinking water. I think half the State is under boil water orders! Something damn well broke in Texas (power grid) and lots of heads need to roll!!!!! Totally Unexcusable!!!! Texas does get very cold on occasion... I recall 11" of snow back in 1985, getting down to 17 degrees and our electricity did not go out. So something definitely stinks in Texas and its not oil!
Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
Glad you're doing well DBA, the weather can be hell. Hurricane Hugo passed over my house in 1989, tore our asses up, no electricity for 21/2 weeks, but it was NOT freezing. That's a big difference.
Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
Glad you made it through OK.
When I first went to work for the power industry 20+ years ago, I had never thought about the grid or interconnections. When I started to figure it out I was a little surprised to see most of Texas was independent from the rest of the grid. For what that is worth. I doubt heads will roll or anything will change.

Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
I forgot part-I hope you aren't getting power from Griddy. Good deal most of the time but that spot price can be a problem.

Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
I heard about Griddy....someone mentioned $9k residential bill. We use Austin Energy but will be interesting to see what we get billed. Have not yet heard about any horror stories by them yet....will see. And we broke record here... 6 full days below freezing. At day 4 we finally saw one truck drive up our residential street...people were not venturing out!
And as far as being on independent grid not connected to rest if US, I've always thought this was good as I value independence. But it appears operations and terms were changed since 1985 and no one noticed---but that should change and many heads should roll! Will see how that goes! I think people here are extremely angry, and I plan to give as many representatives as possible an ear full....and I've never done that...but I will on this!

Wow.... that had to be hard... 2.5 weeks without electricity! The heat and humidity would also be very hard. Each situation has its challenges.
I was getting ready to get rid of an old box of assorted candles. Glad I didn't, as I ended up using half of them. Had one very large one...8"x8", with 3 wicks that kept den lit and other single candles for reading. Favorites were Christmas stained glass bowel-type holders for safety. I had lots of flashlights, batteries and a good little LED lantern with built in radio. Used an Emergency battery car jumper with USB ports to keep phones charged. But heavy blankets and the fireplace and wood were the items that made the biggest difference. Feel so sad that so many lost their lives due to hypothermia... I think count is around 70 nationwide, with only a handful in Texas.:(

Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
Glad to hear you were somewhat prepared for this. Your great state has some issues to work out as there is alot flying around. I listened to Alex Jones report last night which seemingly gives credence to your "something stinks". I look forward to your perspective as details unwind and I am confident you will leave no stone unturned. Be warm, safe and well, DbAnnie.
Re: ravensfan's Account Talk
DB Glad you and yours are doing well. Thoughts and prayers with everyone.
Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
DBA,
I also am so glad to hear you guys are OK and tuffed some really rough conditions down there.
I can compare that to one time I was in Germantown Maryland which is north and west of the city Washington DC when we had our local transformer explode and catch on fire and we didn’t have power for a week and a half.
We had single digit temperature and We used the fireplace and a propane heater to heat the main room and slept in front of the fireplace. We were lucky that we had water that is so important.
I pray for all Texans and all of the folks that were impacted so negatively in this cold snap storm and pray that it warms up for a longer time to repair your infrastructure.

Re: DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk
Thank you for the well wishes and prayers. Its sunny and warming nicely. Todd, sounds like you have had a tough time too...a propane heater is definitely on my list before next winter. We also slept in front of fireplace but more than 7' away and it was 40 degrees. So late in winter, We luckily had plenty of wood and envirologs. Our camp stove (converted to propane some years back and now uses blow torch propane bottles) worked well for cooking. It was stressful week, but almost back to normal now. Water pressure back up as of yesterday but City has not yet recalled the boil water notice...that's okay as its easy to boil water if you have it. Hoping everyone gets their infrastructure back. God's blessings to all!
