Been thinking about getting a Chromebook for my SO. Can we use Office products like Outlook, Word, etc. with the Chromebook? I understand you don't use Windows? How do you like the Chrome compared to the Microsoft products?

That all depends on how tied you are to the look and feel of MS. You can test that by running Linux on your PC. You can run Linux live from a thumb drive or set up your PC to dual boot Linux with MS Windows. If you don't like Linux you won't like Chromebook. If you need specific software you are going to be tied to MS or Apple. If generic software works for you, you should be OK. As for Office products, what do you need? Does it have to be MS Word or will any wordprocessor do? Does it have to be Excel or will any generic spreadsheet do? You can test that for yourself by downloading and using an open source office product like Libre Office. You can get that for MS Windows and try it out on your PC now.The big difference with a Chromebook of course is that you run all your stuff in the cloud with a browser interface. I think you can use the same office products from a Google account with a browser on your PC. Don't know if that still works. It's been many years since I used it. It is a way to try before you buy though.

    FYI:

    Chrome is not necessarily Chromebook.

I use Chrome...with Windows; but I do not use a Chromebook.

Additionally, and more simply; one can use Google Docs: https://www.google.com/docs/about/

I've used Google Docs for a few projects now and have grown to enjoy them. I recommend them as well!

And google docs let you export files to microsoft formats (like ppt and excel) with almost perfect cross-over.
