Default New poster from FL... a bit overwhelmed

    Greetings to all,

I ran across this site the other day. Ive had my TSP for 8 years.. (currently 54). Done OK though March 20 really hurt..HA

There is a ton of info here that Ill have to digest.

What really caught my eye was the Auto tracker. Im really curious how some folks are getting 40-100% annual return on their TSP?

Yes, I see the moniker on the home page "friends dont let friends buy and hold"...

Im guessing that they are selling off in high months and buying back in in the low months?

Can someone walk me through that.. ?

    Cheers Disbo

Welcome, disbo! If you are invested in TSP, you should be here!

The way I figured out what was going on when I first joined was to read everything on the site I had time for, starting with all the newest posts each day. Then as I got more familiar with the site I was able to see what areas were of particular importance to me.

While I was learning, I personally liked being invested in the fund/s that did the best the previous month.

Spend a little time here each day, disbo. You can learn how to invest your TSP funds and make friends doing it. That's a double win!

    Disbo,

    Welcome aboard.

The AutoTracker is just one of the tools in your tool bag. What it was really created for was for members to see how other members might be doing with their TSP accounts. It really works as an honor system basically. When you make a change in your real account you want to show the same change in the AutoTracker.
Every member that is part of the AutoTracker starts on January 1st with $100,000.00 and what percentage they have in each Fund. So on December 31st your personal account was 50% C&S then on January 1st your AutoTracker account would start with $100,000.00 and 50% C&S. This will not reflect your actual account in dollars or shares because that will vary depending on what you have coming out of your paycheck. Also in the AutoTracker there is a column that shows monthly and yearly IFT's. This can give you an idea how many moves a member makes. Some members will make 20-30 plus moves a year. Others may only make one move for the whole year. It really comes down to personal choice and comfort level. But to be honest a lot of it comes down to luck. sparky714 made one move just after the big drop in March and has ridden the "S" fund train for a great result. Not sure what decision he/she made and why, but it certainly worked out favorably.
Hope this helped. Here is link that explains the AutoTracker. AutoTracker Rules - and how to get started
