    Default TSP Newbie

    Hello All

This is my first post on TSP Talk.

I was briefly introduced to TSP back in 2008, put a few $ into it and let it sit until 2017. My TSP on May of 2017 was valued around $2,500! when I started my new GOV job putting 8% of my check into TSP. Not knowing anything it sat in G funds until a buddy of mine introduced me to this site and how I could make my TSP work for me. So starting last August, 2019, I amped up to 20% and started researching what to do and look for on TSP Talk. I may not have the best timing, but am getting better with my decisions. I moved from S to G last November; (premature, and did not capture on the gains that happened from there to February). But noticing the drop in March I avoided the painful slide S took down to bottom. I made a Buy/Sell mistake in March so I wasn't able to capture the bottom of S and had to wait till April 1rst and bought 100% S at $38. I rode S up to $55 last Friday and moved to G. I use mainly RSI, Wm%R, MACD, and SMA Envelopes with 20, 1.5. Now it's a look see this week on how the news will affect the market. Oh, based on my own calculations, I have had a 22.7% gain since starting, and so far about 20% for 2020. Thanks TSP Talk!

    Dant

Hi Dant, Congratulations on your awesome earnings and Thank You for sharing information on indicators you favor. I looked at SMA envelopes using 20, 1.5 setting that you mentioned. So that is different from default of 20, 2.5. The 1.5 gives narrower envelope....very nice! Maybe you'll consider opening a Dant thread.

    Best Wishes to you!

Welcome to TSPTalk Dant! Lots of smart people here! I've learned a lot about managing my TSP account over the last fifteen years. One thing I learned is to contribute as much as you can as early in your career as you can. Really makes a difference! Maybe even more important than your investment decisions! JMHO
