Thread: Get Rid of the "Crap" on Your PC

Cool Re: Get Rid of the "Crap" on Your PC

I was having the same problem. You need this add-on in order to be able to delete your search bar history. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7429
After the install you'll be able to go back into options and clear the search bar history. Read some of the comments from users. The awesome bar wasn't one of FireFox's brighter ideas. Hope this helps.

In your first post, the image of your options settings shows that you checked the box to keep your history for at least 1 day. Further down in the Private Data section, the box is unchecked for clearing private data when closing Foxfire. With these settings, your browser is doing exactly what you set it to do. I would un-check the top box and then, check the bottom one under Private Data, and then close all browser windows. Then reopen the browser and see if the history drop-down looks any different. But that's just me... and just a friendly suggestion.

The rest of the history are your favorites ( The gold star next to the webpage name indicates that). You will now need to remove or modify your favorites. Mozilla will put your favorites in the history bar under the assumption that you go to those the most. But, the default setting may have webpages you do not consider favorites, so modify your favorite selections and then clear your history again. I hope this helps.

Firefox Users, After installing and using Firefox I noticed that for some of my emails with attachments (Outlook Express) the attachments will not open now. If you click on them it identifies the attachment as containing a virus. Is there a fix for this problem?

:toung: Well, I figured out how to get "Crap" working ON my PC tonight! Bought my compute year and 1/2 ago, with DVD-R and DVD-RW drives both, but only had 1 DVD to test on it til today and that one wouldn't play in Windows Media Player unless I bought some joe-blow little extra program to "decode" the video. The DVD wasn't that important so I just didn't bother, more out of irritation. You'd think that having a new PC put together for you with Windows XP and MS Word Office on it, the darn thing would at least play a basic DVD, but Noooooo!

But today I bought a DVD worth the time and aggravation to buy the extra stoopid little add-on compatibility software (that DVD also wouldn't play for me with basic XP/WMP configuration ). and of course once I paid my money and downloaded the silly thing, I could see the video part finally, but the audio part was AWOL!

So then I had to go into miscellaneous tech-geekie QandA sites to find out why and what to do about it. Found aNOTHer little freebie open-source program that was supposed to make the audio work. So I downloaded THAT! And of course, I had to fuss and finagle and throw things in frustration before I found the right little trial and error setting that finally turned the sound on to go with the video. WHAT a HASSle! But-I finally conquered WinXP and WinMedPlayer today. Think it took me at least as long as figuring out my taxes this year, and at least as much aggravation too, but I did it-finally! Whew!

    Buster-

Sorry , but I just picked up on this thread. I'm a firefox user for some time now.

here is the answer to your original question about deleting history from the history bar:

    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...on+bar+history

In short- they are working on it, and it will be doable in Firefox 3.5, which is still in testing.

And Squalebear is right- it's a known issue with the flux-capacitor.

Hello Board Computer Gurus, My wife and I are in the market for a new computer. Any suggestions for a good value? I like Dell but they're a little pricy. I have a Compaq/HP at work which is decent. We don't play games, etc. mainly just Internet and email. The old one still works but is pretty slow (8 years old). We do work from home some. Also, thoughts on Windows 7? Am thinking about getting the Professional version to use Office XP more easily as I understand the Home version of Windows 7 doesn't play well with Office XP. Thanks for your advice!
