Thread: NFLX - Netflix

Every dip in netflix has been good to buy up to this point. Today's sell-off looks a little more serious - and life threatening.

It will be hard to pass up, but I may wait until tomorrow to see how it's digested.

I just clicked over to cnbc, saw the ticker and thought it was a mistake. Watched it tick by a few more times. Down $11X to $33X right now. Insane. What happened? Bad earnings call on top of a bad market day?

Earnings weren't bad - beat estimates, but the decrease in customer growth hurt them since their price increase (of $1 a month)....

Netflix NFLX, -25.94% said in its investor letter that during the third quarter, it added one million new subscribers in the U.S., to end the quarter with 37.22 million members, lower than its forecast and below the previous year.

“Year on year net additions in the US were down,” said Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings, in his quarterly letter to shareholders. “As best we can tell, the primary cause is the slightly higher prices we now have compared to a year ago.” Last quarter, its price hike to $8.99 did not affect subscriber growth

Even though Netflix carefully managed its latest price hike to avoid alienating its customers, the news on Wednesday recalled the summer of 2011 when it lost about 1 million subscribers in the wake of a far bigger price hike.

Now that's a gap. It looks like NFLX has a history of some runaway gaps that don't always get filled. Too dangerous for me. But the risk takers could get rewarded if correct.

When I looked at the NFLX chart this morning I thought about making a comment on that gap in this thread

Even from the bottom of the Jan gap to the bottom of the current gap the slope seems ridiculous. Couldn't one argue that those 2 gaps still need to be filled...and may be reasonable targets?
    2011: 12.73%; 2012: 16.44 %, 2013: 17.46%, 2014: 5.35 ; Past 12 months 6.81% as of 01/31/2015

The Jan 2013 gap, I assume, since the Jan 2014 is filled already?

    That would be bloody.

Those brave souls who bought NFLX at the open ($333) are already being handsomely rewarded. And there's much more to come, IMHO. Will it be volitile? Yes. But I think this could be a golden opportunity, as long as you don't over-expose yourself, and watch it carefully.

i posted a question about NFLX but did not hear anything so thought I would try here where you had posted back in 2014. Wowwww what a play this has turned out to be. Just wondering if it's too late to chase this one. Everyday I look and say shoulda woulda coulda and the stock jumps $2-$3 dollars a day. Anybody feel like this is still a good play. Thanks for any input.

Looks like they're making their way into China...

Internet television network Netflix has signed a licensing agreement with Chinese online video service iQiyi to enter the massive China market.

Weird, I would of thought hitting 100 million subscribers late last week would have had a bigger effect.
