    Arrow 2007 Platinum & Gold

It has been a banner year for both gold and platinum. I foresee them continuing strong throughout 2008. Check out these gains for 2007:

Gold as of 3 Jan 2007:

    629.80 per Troy oz

Gold as of 28 Dec 2007:

    842.70 per Troy oz

Platinum as of 3 Jan 2007:

    1,135.40 per Troy oz

Platinum as of 28 Dec 2007:

    1,539.50 per Troy oz

    God Bless

Now... what's so great about stocks???

Just my opinion, but perhaps gold will hit $1,200 in 2008.

Is there any reason that we can not have a hard asset fund in TSP?
I moved everything to the I Fund to get as much protection from the devaluation of the dollar as possible. Thanks.

I'm also in the G fund. I might switch back and forth with the F.
Outside of the TSP I have the following etf's and stocks
    DBA
    JJA
    RJA
    DBB
    DBC
    GCC
    RJI
    GLD
    SLV
    UNG
    DNN
    PAL
    PIPMX
    ENPIX

All are doing great. If only the TSP had some kind of commodity fund.

Does anyone buy gold and in what form do you purchase it in and do you have a favorite on line siteto purchase it? I'm just beginning to research the subject and hope that someone here can offer their experiences so I may not have to replow so much ground.

I've been buying it as jewelry for the wife on B'days and Christmas, but for investment purposes, would just as soon buy it in non jewelry form, buillion would be find. I'm not particularly interested in the estethics, just pure investment.

NWT Mint has very good prices. Best bet is to find someone local that will sell for a small premium over spot price.

As with any commodities though, watch the spread! That's the little difference in price between bid and ask. From investopedia.com:

The amount by which the ask price exceeds the bid. This is essentially the difference in price between the highest price that a buyer is willing to pay for an asset and the lowest price for which a seller is willing to sell it.

For example, if the bid price is $20 and the ask price is $21 then the "bid-ask spread" is $1.

The size of the spread from one asset to another will differ mainly because of the difference in liquidity of each asset. For example, currency is considered the most liquid asset in the world and the bid-ask spread in the currency market is one of the smallest (one-hundredth of a percent). On the other hand, less liquid assets such as a small-cap stock may have spreads that are equivalent to a percent or two of the asset's value.

    Hi CB!

I keep a finger or two in the gold mix. $GOLD is the (general) symbol at www.stockcharts.com IAU is the gold symbol for ETFs using IShares. American Eagles are nice things to keep in a safe. You might want to see www.blanchardgold.com Just make sure you buy low........

    CB,

If you're looking to research precious metals further and be able to keep up on the daily events that move commodities, check out http://www.gold-eagle.com/

I usually check the editorials section, but there is a forum where you can interact with other gold bugs, an area with a few good intra-day chart sections, and some great links included on the site.

    Thanks Bullitt,

Very interesting link and I'm sure the editorial and forum sections will come in handy. As for me, I can never get my hands on enough info when it comes to investing my money and I know you guys here have already separated the wheat from the chaff.
