So much clamour on various MBs from people saying Go Ahead and Veto - Shut Down the Government and save taxpayer money.
They dont even know we are gonna get paid anyway.

I hear there are over 400 proposed amendments to the 2011 budget proposal. Anything from "Don't like this Program so De-Fund it!", "Cut Everything to reach $100 B in cuts even though half of the FY is over." to actual serious proposals. It's going to be a slog just wading through everything to find solid proposals.
And it looks like the White House is considering a veto on the current bill as it stands now.
So the worrywort bird sez, are we going to have a forced vacation again? May be a good thing because a shutdown puts things in perspective (especially if only real security threat workers are the only ones forced to work for free and not everyone that someone thinks is "essential).
Next few days are going to make my life interesting.

I like TSPTalk and I think most people here are well-intentioned but if I followed their advice, I'd be hunkered down in my basement with a thousand cans of tuna fish.
nodnondnod. No way to sort out the "essential" (Translation: Has to work for free until the budget goes through because they are "essential), and the rest of us (Delayed pay).

Note:
Senate just voted 91-9 to pass the Continuing Resolution, allowing at least two more weeks before any shutdown.
Vote: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LI...n=1&vote=00029
The CR bill now goes to the President for signature.
No shutdown- At least not this week, anyway.
Carry on.
I wasn't a Fed back in 95 when the last gov shut down occurred, but with all the Federal employee bashing in the media right now I'd bet we wont get paid this time around if a shutdown happens later this month. I cant see how congress would approve retro payments to us when the main argument here is a bloated government who is overspending. I think they would use it as an opportunity to say look how much we saved by furlowing the Fed workforce.
The only problem with that idea is there are some people who will have to work (essential workers). Each Agency gets to determine who these people are (it's not just the obvious Secret Service, FBI - it could be a LAN manager too, etc etc).
The essential employees have to be paid, since they have to work (there are definate laws against forcing people to work for nothing). Budget office figured out it would cost more to seperate out the furloughed from the have to works than it would to pay everyone.
That's the reason everyone got paid.
Edit: Now if someone made a database of essential versus Furloughed, yes, they could winnow out us furloughted. But with all the staff changes over time, I don't think that's possible.
