Yogi Berra dead at 90. Just about everyone knew of and loved Yogi, mainly for the great bits of wisdom he gave us. But, he helped win 10 World Series, was the MVP 3 times and an all star 18 times!

We lost a good one there. He was so colorful and around so long that I thought maybe he was a fictional character that would live forever.

I went to a Mets game when I was 9 years old and some friends and I carried a big banner around Shea Stadium that we made from a bed sheet that said, "Like Gil Hodges, Yogi Berra too, will pull the Mets through in 1972!"

That was in reference to Gil Hodges managing the 1969 Mets to a World Series win, but he died right before opening day in 1972 at age 48.

Without trying, he became much bigger than his field. Most people nowadays probably only think of his famous quotes when they think of him, but his accomplishments were many. Wannabe-celebrities would pay huge to have the level of fame and universal love that came to him naturally.
